**Checkmate Resumes Production**

I just want to see some Sick New Flaked Out Checkmates that are laid up to the quality that set them apart from the rest. These boats have always been the workin mans boat and not something on the race platform that few can afford. It will be interesting to see what the new owners turn out and I am very happy and supportive of this new venture. :surf:

are you guys really gonna argue who knew first.

No time for that. I have jackplates to think about, setback to decide on, billet dts controls to find and HP to choose 300 or 350 ??? Much to do and nonsense is not part of that !!!

I would go at least 350 if not 557.......that would be one fast 2400!

We will see. The V-Rod Pro 300 is the better buy. For what Merc wants for the 350 I could get the hull blueprinted and still come out ahead by going with the 300.

A toast:

Here's hoping that everything works out the way we want it to for both the Checkmate and Hustler brands moving forward. And here's hoping that karma catches-up with those people who we believe have some coming their way - both good and bad.

Now drink!

Gang,

I would ask that you refrain from personal attacks on either the current or former Checkmate management.

I fully understand that some members and individuals have claims and outstanding issues, but I don't think some of the comments that were made are going to help get things resolved.

I've therefore removed a few of the comments that were made.

Exposing an economic terrorist for all to see is just increasing the awareness of the greed and dishonesty for all the hard working customers of the Checkmate brand.

glad to hear checkmate is still alive and kicking!!

as far as Doug Smith "situation"....i think we should just keep our mouths shut. its easy to make judgement calls on someones actions from the sidelines and without knowing the dynamic of the situation. the owners may still make good on Checkmates's obligations that are being brought to light. and it is important to remember that those obligations belong to Checkmate....not Doug Smith......the new owners of Checkmate will have to sort out all prior and upcoming obligations when the transition is complete and all proper paper work has been filed.

the owners of Hustler Powerboats are no fools...and if they kept Doug around its for good reason. Doug has done alot for the sport of powerboating and i find it childish and unfair to be so quick to throw him under the bus. if you have a grievance with Doug.....take it up with him.....spreading hateful garbage for all the world to see will not help sharpen the axe you are attempting to grind.

Ahhh a voice of clam and reason ---- what a refreshing relief.
Thanks 2ton:thumb:

It is possible to buy the assets of a company and not assume the liabilities. I have had it happen to me before. Don't assume that just by purchasing Checkmate, Hustler is going to pay off their debts that were incurred before the purchase. I believe this is called something like a bulk transfer. The creditors get left holding the bag.

I hope that everyone that they owe money to gets paid off, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Hustlers reputation is on the line and we will see how this all plays out.

If they man up and spend a few bucks paying off old debts, the Checkmate name could be as strong or stronger than before Doug Smith.

If Hustler decides to stiff the creditors, than I am afraid that the Checkmate name will only be a memory. Bad news travels fast!

The ball is in Hustlers court!.........Skip

Well, I hate to disagree with you 2TON, but Checkmate didn't take my money and others at the end, Doug and Dee did. They took it the last few weeks, and they sure didn't pay any bills with it. I spoke to Dee the first week of Feb. She said " Mail a check today and your motors will be here when your check arrives" Well, she never ordered them and moved to Pittsburg a week or two later never to be seen again. Once the investigators check the books, hopefully we will know where it went.

you are entitled to look at the situation in any light yo desire. i am not advocating a change of heart on your...or any one elses part....the main point im trying to make is that running about airing your (and others) dirty laundry is not going to help....and in fact in most cases it backfires.

theres still alot of variables that havnt even come to light....so all this animosity seems very presumptuous.

the sad thing is even if Checkmate makes good on all its obligations after all the hate being spewed.....you and others will have already trashed checkmates's, Doug's AND Hustler's reputation for no reason. you guys arent leaving any amicable way for this to end. it should be totally understandable if, in the midst of a large corporate transfer/sale, that an order/purchase be delayed or postponed until further notice. i dont know what you have been told when you have inquired about your purchase so i dont claim to know your situation...but with the sale just being finalized it seems like a little tact and patience would be a better approach to getting what you want.

sometimes the perception of our own importance to others is greatly exaggerated given the circumstances. it is my opinion that it is more manly and mature to deal with problems directly. petty mud slinging isnt my style.....if Doug is liable and he did indeed rip you and others off .....you have clear cut legal means to recover your losses.....ripping Doug on this or any other forum isnt gonna get one cent back in your pocket or motor to your doorstep.........and isnt that the point? to get what is owed to you? or is there another agenda here????

i feel as though given time, patience, and persistence.....things will be made right.....either by checkmate paying up....or a legal judgement.....the name calling and school yard taunting has no place in the grown up world....thats just my opinion.

I have tried for 6 months to get my motors or money. Doug has come right out and told me that he won't pay me. Yes, my intention is to let everyone know exactly what kind of man he is. I am a Checkmate dealer and hope to stay one. I am extremely happy with the brand. I have nothing against Checkmate or the new owners and realize they are not responsible for Doug's actions. I have always thought of Doug and Dee as family and am very surprised that they would do this to me. I don't think I, or anyone else has been trashing Checkmate's or Hustler's name in any way. I was intentionally conned out of $48,000. and I'm not feeling so "manly" right now! I really think that I'd feel much more manly if you could cough up the $48K! It would be a nice gesture on your part! Anyone who knows me would probably describe me as the calmest and most laid back person they know.
