Cobra Sprint

I was wondering if anyone could give me a little insight on the Cobra Sprint. I looked at real nice one tonight and I'm seriously considering buying it. The boat is clean, and the motor looks good, clean no oil leaks and the outdrive appears to be in good shape, exhaust bellows looks like new. Is the 2.3 OMC a decent motor? Is there anything I should look out for? The gelcoat is nice, no cracks, just a touch of fading in the graphics but it's to be expeced for a 20yr old boat. Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks, Jeff

Super rare Checkmate. Pinto/Ranger motor, so lots of spare parts. Probably around 4 of them out there. 2 white, 2 black. That I know of.

Thanks for the response! I wound up buying the boat, the hull is real nice, it's white with red and orange graphics. I wasn't able to get to test the boat in the water but the guy I bought it from ran it with muffs. The motor ran good, shifted smoothly, no ticking or usual noises, things like the oil, belts etc. looked good also. The shift cable was red and from what I understand that is the upgraded one. The gel coat has some very slight oxidation but nothing that can't be buffed out. I will post some pic's shortly once I get it buffed and waxed. I can't wait to get it in the water! -Jeff

Those 2.3L Ford engines are awesome. There is a huge aftermarket for those. Some people make big power with them. We need pics!!!

Pic's

You guys are killing me! It's been raining for the past four days here in Rottenchester, NY (Rochester). I want to show this boat off as bad as you want pics! It's raining again today!! Killing me! I will post some pic's I took with my BlackBerry. When the weather breaks I will take some higher res images. I also have been talking to Mike at Checkmate and he has given some good info and he still has the the original Checkmate vinyl that is missing from the boat. I can't wait to get this in the water! http://www.brayleytool.com/Cobra_Sprint.html

Like a big Playmate GT !! Love it. Gonna run that 2300 or try to fit a V8? Can't wait to see you run it with a 350 MAG MPI motor

Well I have a couple of launches in, the boat runs great! I still have not had a chance to really wind it up due to Lake Ontario being really rough the past two times I put it in. The first time there was a 1-2 foot chop and managed to get up to 38 skipping it across the waves, way cool! This past weekend the wind was blowing so damn hard that there were some pretty good waves breakin' on the lake. I was able to go up to the mouth of the creek and had to turn around due the wave blasting over the break wall. I have some pictures of it in the water which I will post shortly. Thanks, Jeff
