Did Mercruiser ever use vortec heads?

Did mercruiser ever use vortec heads like the ones used in 1996-1999 Chevy trucks? If they did, what years did they use them and were they carbed or fuel injected? Remember not all center bolt valve covers are vortec heads. Vortec heads used 8 intake bolts as opposed to the older style using 12 intake bolts.

Yes they have used vortech heads
not sure of the extent of their use but I have a 1986 5.7 260hp
out of a ski boat that has vortech heads and a quadrajet 4bb carb
I currently have it in my sleekcraft and its a descent motor

Yes, 1996 and up 454 engines of the 310 hp variety were vortec headed efi engines and used the gm tuned port intake setup. May have been carbed version too but not sure.

I've looked at 4.3 liter V6 motors were stamped vortech also. Mid 90's and later?

Thanks guys. I was mostly referring to small blocks and wondered if they used the vortec heads with a carb. (I always just say "carb" because I don't know how to spell careurautor!:sssh:)

I'm sure you know this but Edelbrock (and probably others) make carb style intake manifolds to use the Vortec heads on older short blocks.

Yea... I just put together a 400 small block with vortec heads and a knock off edelbrock intake and carb. It doesn't run worth a crap over 4500 rpm....I'm blaming it on the stupid "Mutha Thumper" cam the guy wanted to use. They sound good... But that's all. No performance.

Someone must have done a head swap (or motor swap) on that ski boat.

My bad
the motor is a 1996 not 1986
It is a bone stock MEI 260hp
I'd like to swap it out for a 383 stroker some day
but for now it will be fine for cruising some lakes
that are too small for the convinsor
