Engine year and model

Hi guys.. i need help to find the year and model of my murcury outboard.. i brought a boat to restore and the bloke said the motor is a 1500 mercury inline 6.. it has 1500 on the crowl but the faceplate says 1000. Now the problem is it doesnt have the tag with the serial number on the transom bracket.. is there any other way of finding out the year and model of the ob.. cheers guys

From research i believe its a 1973 - 76 but alot of the 115 - 150hp look alot the same
