Four Winns Unlimited U-17 or U-19

Thanks Bruce for all the info. I am in the metro detroit area and have been searching craigslist and have found a few. And your right the U17 have been going for around $9 to 8.5K. I wasn't aware of the engine change from 96 to 97.....good info there.

Thanks
Fred

Hi Fred .. not sure if you are up for a road trip or not but just found this U17 down in Utah. It looks to be in perfect shape from the pictures and it comes with just about every available option .. thru hull exhaust, duo prop, 5.0 litre 220 hp engine , swim ladder and platform. The fella is asking $8900.00 or best offer. Maybe be able to negotiate it down to 8,000.

good boat, it is a true copy of don arnows donzi. i like the donzi better for the history. hell any boat company that is made up because your mistress called you don z. that is how the name came up or so i was told. look at how he made his ciggerette boats mistress was a model. oops i am babiling own. well i like the boat but i like the donzi name better.

but a check power for pound will woop them it take power to make one break 70s if you can control the 24 degree bottom at that speed and the hook in the hull. the boat can crash some chop that a checkmate wont like but thats my 2 cents.

i just never been into a performance boat built by four wins u series or when regal boat velocity is another example but they are strong boats.

Hi there. I've owned two checkmates, 1 14 Barracuda? with a 150 Merc XS and a Vmate with a Black Max 200.
I now own 3 Four Winns U boats. I have a 17 with a V6, and two 19s with the 275hp EFI Ford 5.8. These boats are a pile of fun, and when you have to deal with some chop, or for that matter waves, they are fan frickin tastic. FourWinns was owned by OMC and OMC owned Donzi for a few years. It was in this time that some Donzi boats were built by Four Winns. When the OMC thing started to fail, FourWinns was sold off and I would assume still had the molds. The 16 became the U17, and the 18 became the U19. I've owned a 1965 Donzi Ski 16 (Many know them as sweet 16's) with a small block V8 and my U17 with a V6 would skin it alive. I've got to sell a couple of these boats and quite frankly I don't care which ones. I look at these like an amazing PWC that can carry 5 people, and your feet keep dry. In addition they are reliable and crazy cheap to run. I'm in Ontario Canada, and can be reached at
shayward@mail.transdata.ca Keep having fun with the "Checkies" I had a blast with mine.
I have lots of photos.

Bringing this thread back to the top....I have my U-17 for sale after just picking up a 2400 Pulsare. Been a great little boat. Has the 5.0L single prop Volvo Penta.

As stated in the post, a cool little cruiser. GREAT on gas. For a 17' boat it does do well in the chop. Fits in a normal sized garage.

If anyone's interested, PM me and I'll send you some details. This 1996 is in better shape than my 2007 Checkmate :)
