Fuel tank - Vent or not to Vent?

One more item to consider: The fuel gauge in my Starflite will show different fuel levels depending if the boat is sitting on the trailer in the garage (on a level concrete floor) versus when it is floating in the water. At rest, in the water, the transom is lower than the bow. For example, if I put half a tank of gas (according to the gauge) in at my favorite gas station (on land, boat sitting level on the trailer), when I drop it in the water, the gauge will show a little over 1/2 tank, because the sending unit is near the rear of the tank.

Consequently, if the gauge shows 1/4 tank when we return to the dock, it will show a little under 1/4 tank when I put it back in the garage.

Either I am dreaming or someone was stealing my fuel. I pulled the rear seat while the tank is full and cannot find a leak. Have had a full tank since Wednesday and I have not lost any.
