Getting a Bobs Hydr. Jackplate & Nosecone Installed

INXS

Member
on my Starflite, I've been told that the 6" set-back that the jack-plate adds will be enought due to my stepped haul? I running a 24" labbed Mirage prop. I believe I've heard that a Starflite with this set-up, 225 HP, will run about 74 MPH (GPS)? Any Feedback?
PS, Bobs is installing the nosecone, manny have said it's worth the extra expense!

Inxs, I don't know a whole lot about the Starflite, but the 6" set-back with a jack is just right on my enchanter and its got the stepped hull also. Although I turn a 29" chopper and 82.3 gps was the best I could do, with a mod. evinrude. The nose cone is worth it the faster you go, after about 75.Good luck with your set-up!

Thanks for the feedback Brain, the main porpoise I went with the nosecone is for the LW pick-up. I know it will't help with the motor inm its present HP range. I plan on modifying the motor to about 260 HP in the future or buying a 250. Until then I'll run it hard, until it dies!

Be carefull in the shallow water and in weedy water with the low water pick-up, It's amazing how much more it will pick up when your idling out of a shallow area. I've also seen guys cook there motor after running thru a thick weedy area.
F150GT

P.S. I also recommend taking your lowerunit off for the winter and keep it someplace warm. They get little moisture pockets in the glass and will freeze and crack.

There seems to be some debate on whether a nose cone actually helps top end speed on many (outboard) Mates or hurts it. It seems like the consensus is that the stock setup can actually give more bow lift due to the extra drag of the stock gearcase. The payoff seems to come when your top end gets up around 80.

Hopefully JW will drop around and give us his .02 cents.

Thanks guys, the reason I'm getting the nose-cone is for the LW pick-up. Being that I'm also getting the Hyd jack-plate. I'm only going with a 6" set-back case I have a stepped haul and feel that that will let the water flow up after the tramson a little sooner then a reg. haul?

The nosecone debate, I love it. When the trimate is completed I will do some testing witht eh new set up. Once I get a base line I then install the nose cone and start testing again. We shale see if there is a difference.

This is like most boats that run a Sportmaster gearcase. It actually slows your boat down until about 75 MPH (compared to the stock case), where its actually "purpose" so to say comes into effect and runs more efficient after this little bump. And like everyone said, be careful in the weeds. Good luck

Z06 IS CORRECT. UP UNTIL ABOUT 75 MPH THE NOSE CONE IS INEFFECTIVE. YOUR WIDTH OF THE GEARCASE SPLITS THE WATER AS IT TRAVELS TOWARDS THE PROP. A STOCK GEAR CASE , DUE TO IT'S ENTRY WIDTH, WILL SPLIT THE WATER FLOW TO THE PROP TO WIDE FOR THE PROP TO BE EFFICIENT. THE NOSE CONE NARROWS THE HYDRODYNAMIC WATER FLOW TO THE PROP AT HIGHER SPEEDS SO A CLEANER WATER FLOW REACHES THE PROP BLADES THEREFORE INCREASING TOP END SPEEDS. GOT MILK!!!!

I should get the boat back this week. I'm hoping on running about 73 or 74 MPH. I also plan on modifying the motor up to abput 260 HP in the furture, which I hope will bring my top speed up to about 78 MPH?
