HemiBee's Rare 28' Outboard Convincor

Just thought I'd give you guys and update. Now that my AE-21 is sold, I'm finally going to be bringing the 28 home. Working out the motor logistics with Lin right now. He's going to keep one 260 for his Cole flat bottom. I'm buying the left hand motor and will probably sell the powerhead. Looking to install to built fishing motors for more reliability..

As in white motahs or as in fishing style Mercs?

I've always been a Merc guy...I just need to figure out the most economical way to get the boat back on the water and bring her back to life. It's going to be a financial balance between dolling up the hull and buying good power for the boat. If I sell the 260 powerhead I'll have the money to buy another 20" Offshore Mid and clamp and install twin 2.4 200's or twin 2.5 200's...I may even look for a pair of counter rotating 3.0 liter Offshores..The idea is turn key reliability and at least 75MPH...

"The idea is turn key reliability and at least 75MPH... "

What more could you ask for. That would be absolutely ideal.

Wow, I can't believe that after 6 mos of waiting I'm finally getting the 28!! If all goes well it should be here by July 3rd/4th. The initial setup will be Mercury 2.4L 200's on 25" mid sections with Bob's nosed coned lower units (it's the most economical way to get the boat back on the water). I think I'm going to remove all the carpet in the cabin and spray the entire cabin and cabin floor in bright white bed liner before re-installing new headliner and the cabinets/bulkheads. I don't want any material that will trap moisture or mildew and I want the ability to easily clean the cabin!! The boat will get aqua buffed and waxed. I'll also tidy up some of the wiring to my standards. Getting the boat back on the water will be first priority...then I can take my time fixing up the cabin. I gotta keep my first mate (wife) happy and she does not want to miss any boating!!!

Here's a few more..along with a surprise. There is a race hatch over the splash well. It's the only 2800SX I've seen with such a feature!:thumb:

Congrats Jup! :)

I can remember when Hemibee sent me the original pics of his boat to post - I guess that's a lot of years ago now!

I'm happy to hear he'll be passing his boat along to you as I know you'll bring it back to it's former glory. :thumb:

A friend had the same boat back in the early 80's.It had tripple 2.4s and would run close to 90 and it was a handfull. Sounded like a helicopter coming down the river.
I think your idea with the twin 200's will be a good match.Good idea with the cabin too. Good luck!----JB
