Have you looked at wake board /ski type boats?
I don't know the pros/cons Just thinking you might want to check them out for your purpose.

No Keith... those aren't really family boats. Well I guess the wakeboard boats could be with all their seating, but they're heavy and slow (because that's what makes a good wake) and they don't make outboard versions.. and I'd be surprised if they handle chop good... and they're expensive as sh!t. I've seen Mastercrafts at boat shows for $99k. They had a real racey Inmar engine, but they still top out at 45mph... and where's my nearest Inmar mechanic?
Thanks for the thought. What's great about boats is you have sooo many choices, but what sucks is that you have sooo many choices and you can't just visit a few dealers, do a few test drives, and pick the one you like.

I didn't know all that. Just throwing options out there for you. I'd love to see you in a mate. Just thought those type boats might work for you.
