I may be relocating from California

I am being offered an opportunity to transfer to Virginia (Mclean area).
Can you tell me a bit about the boating opportunities in the area? Do you have resources available? Launch ramps/ Destinations with docks etc? Large enough bodies of water to let your Check's stretch their legs?
Fresh / salt water? Best area to live with reasonable home prices? (Reasonable under 500k if such a thing. )

Thanks!
Ray

Ray,,, I live in Maryland, but do a lot of work and travel the DC Virginia area. As far as boating you have the whole Chesapeake Bay area. You will have to travel a little to get to some good marinas but not a big deal unless you try traveling around town during the week. Traffic around the DC, Va. area is terrible during the week. The 495 beltway is a night mare. Most all of the housing around DC and into Va. is high dollar, especially inside the beltway, and that's where Mclean is. There is a lot of color. history, and nice housing in that area but it is at a premium even during this housing crunch. Any houses on the water or even water front community is mucho deneros. Housing prices get a little better if you head north towards Baltimore where I live, but not much.

There is plenty of water to boat in here. Like I said just grab a map of the bay. The Potomac river as you know runs right through Virginia and DC but you need to go south below DC to get to some good water. Annapolis, Md. area and east is much better for boating IMHO. Also anything around the DelMarVa is nice and less congested.

Washington, DC breads congestion and a high standard of living. You may have some idea what that's like coming from California. Hope this helps. Good luck with your move. :thumb:

Oh,,, and yea you can find housing here under 500k, just depends on how big a house you need. 500 thou will do you a little better than average in Mclean.

I grew up in N. Va now live less than 50 miles from there...boating on the potomac is awsome....lots of open water, it's fresh water from DC down just north of the 301 bridge...if you make the move get with me and will fill you in...now the traffic in that area..you are own your own !! Rob

Ray,
I'm still looking to buy my first 'mate and that is why I'm on this site. But I did just move from San Diego to Reston, Va two years ago and I work in McLean. I can echo what Jetmate was saying and you should give me a call to discuss the area if you would like a fresh perspective.
