Is Hotboat Magazine GONE ? !!!

I noticed I did not receive my December issue of Hotboat Magazine and i haven't received January yet. I went online and called the customer service numbers from the website and was told that the company no longer handled the "Hotboat account" and they gave me another number to call.

Called that one and every other number on the website and either found FULL inboxes with no ability to leave a message OR disconnected no longer in service responses.

Sounds like I just got screwed on a prepaid subscription to Hotboat. Anyone else stuck like me?:brickwall:

A relative of mine called in December to buy HB as a gift and was told by the operator, indirectky so to speak, that it wouldn't be a good idea to buy a subscription. Looks like they\re gone.

Yeah, I havnt been able to find it at Barnes and Noble, I asked about it, but the Beatnick working was so high on the smell of Starbucks she had no idea what I was talking about, so I just turned and walked out.

I guess I didnt really need it, the only time I ever looked at it was on the toilet, just about the only time I am left alone long enough to read.

Wouldnt supprise me. I called on the classic boat issue & the # was disconnected as well. So I called annother # & left a message 2x.. that was weeks ago & I never got a call back.. They also cut back on the girlies about a year ago which probably didnt help either.. :) Jamie

It took....

..about 3 or 4 minutes of staring at Lake side's signature before I could actually respond to this thread. Lakeside hotties =
LOL

I was traveling over the holidays and none of the airports (LaGuardia, NY, Ft. Lauderdale, FL or Bradley, CT) had Hot Boat in the Magazine Store. All of the other usuals were displayed. Never had that happen before, but it didn't hit me 'til now.

Kind of shady if they just up and left subscribers hanging with no warning.

I finally ended up dropping ALL my performance boat magazines, with Bass and Walleye being the last to go.

Thanks for the link, I'll have to check this one out. First I've heard of Performance Boats Magazine.

That explains why I haven't seen Hot Boat mag on the local shelves in the last year or 2 dam and I was just going to send in an old re-new card today ** Thanks for the WARNING ** I'm gonna miss that mag..

My opinion...

If the same family runs Performance Boat Magazine as did the HotBoat Magazine - I would steer clear of them.

My Hotboat Magazine just quit showing up back in October. No explanation, no refund of the 9 months remaining on the subscription, no nothing. I had to start calling around and digging to learn that they sunk.

If they did that with the Hotboat customers, what makes you think they wouldn't do it again with Performance Boat Magazine. I think I'll save my nickels for gas money and let them keep the glossy magazine on the shelf.

Just my two cents on the poor customer service from Hotboat...:pissed:

The brothers that worked there had a bit of a split when one brother bought the mag, then fired the other along with several others. The fired brother then went out and started Performance Boats Magazine. But as Earl says, Carma's a bitch, the brother that bought Hot Boat and fired his brother, was diagnosed with cancer and could no longer run the magazine, and it went up for sale. It will probably be back at some point under new ownership.
PBM, has really embraced the internet side of the business, much better than Hot Boat did.

The whole situation with Hot Boat was very unfortunate and one person could not solve all the issues at hand, although I agree with your logic completely.

The difference between a successful person and a non successful person is a successful person is able to get up one more time.

Chris, owner of Performance magazine truly is a stand up guy trying to elevate a magazine and video for all of us performance enthusiasts to enjoy, and he is doing it in a down economy.

I am confident you will not be disappointed and I would like to see all of us support him; his magazine could do a lot for the Checkmate Community.

That sucks and I understand your being pi$$ed. It am always amazed at how people burn bridges when a little humility would go a long way. Case in point....how difficult would it have been to send something out to customers explaining that they were reading their last subscription of the magazine rather than just leaving them hanging:confused:

Exactly...

My point exactly. I hope Performance Boat is successful also, I just won't buy it.

If he's such a great guy then I should expect my refund for the undelivered subscription and an apology for the mix up any day now - right?

I don't think I'll stand out by the mailbox waiting for it...:shakehead:

They were different companies guys, brothers who one fired the other. You won't see a refund for Hot Boat coming from Performance Boats magazine, they were competitors.

Coop, I get that they weren't owned by the same company and therefore unrelated issues, I was simply making a point that if the previous owner of Hotboat thinks he's ever coming back into the powerboat magazine world, I'd say he'll be hardpressed in this "small pond" of customers with the power of the internet and his previous bad business decisions haunting him.

Having said that, Safetynut here is an idea....write a quick note to the owner of PB mag and tell him you got screwed by his brother's company--you may end up with a subsciption from him and he could end up with a new customer. I know as a business man, if I were him, I'd be thinking of capitalizing on those who got burned--there's only so many of us in the PB world!

I didn't get my december issue either, I think this magazine is kaput.

There are better online sites now anyway, it was an expense I probably didn't need, especially in this economy.
