Jack plate and setback on an enticer??

Whats a good setback for an enticer running a merc v6? I'm about ready to do some repair work to the boat and decided while I'm at it to do a hyd. jack plate and hyd steering. So what would you suggest is a good setback, plate, and steering?
 
Seeing as no one is responding, I will. I would go with the minimum setback you can find. The weight of the V6 and a jackplate will cause slow speed porpoising. Nevertheless, you need the plate to be able to raise the motor. I had a 5" plate on my Diplomat (same length but wider) with a V4 and it was perfect. It was non-adjustable so I went with 6" and it seems just a tad much, but acceptable. Honestly, I think 4" would be better with a V6. Some of the guys with the Predictors (exact same hull as yours) and V6's might know better.
 
Hey, Dont have a jack plate on my enticer yet, but when I get a v6 merc (fingers crossed) I will be using a 5.5 or 6 inch plate, thats what guys with enticers and predictors seem to have the most success with, check out some of wickedrister or 83predictors old threads, they have lots of info on setup for this hull.
 
CMC Plate

I added a CMC 5.5 inch manual plate to my 1980 Enticer and it made the boat come alive. It was the most bang for the bucks of any changes made. My little Black motor only weighed 305 lb's so you might want to beef up the transom if hanging a 2.4 or 2.5 V6 on er.
 
the ability to get the engine height up is where 95% of the performance gain will be on this hull
i found out after trying a 10in jackplate, further back is not always better

a 6in plate will put your prop in a little cleaner water
and allow you to run the motor higher providing you are getting sufficient water pressure. Bow lift is not much of an issue as it is a very flighty hull

Im running just shy of 2in below the pad with 3 inches of setback
which is perfect for all around performance

Wow. Everyone posted on the same day. Mine already porpoises at slow speeds (20-25) with it right on the transom. I need to put a new transom in it so I will be adding the j/p and hyd steering at that time. Right now I have a 78 175hp 2.0 on it and I bought a 89 xr4 that I was going to try to get up to around 210hp.


So since I've got a heavy engine on back do you think a 4" would be better than a 6"? Or does anybody make a hyd shorter than 4"?


Last year I was stuck at 59mph. This year I've managed to squeeze out 65 and I'm still about 6" below the pad.
 
i ran a 6" on the predictor with a 2.4. it would porpois up to around 28 mph.

lets face it though.... you are going for speed. dont worry about the porpoising. you'll get used to it.

How bad does yours porpoise? I would also like to be able to pull skiers and tubes every once in a while.

Another thing thats interesting (atleast to me) is that I was still able to hit 57 gps with 5 guys and a dog in the boat. I would have thought I would have lost more speed.
 
it was not bad at all. if it started to bounce just hit the gas a bit and it leveled right out.

as far as tubing and sking..... mine would have sucked. it may work out a lil better with a hydro jack plate since you can lower it all the way down for take off.

i had mine raised up for top end. it would run 74 with a full boat but stand straight up in the air when starting out.
 
Theres wedges that are avaliable that will allow your mota to tuck under acouple more degrees while pulling skiers and tubers.
 
So you all would reccomend a 6" plate instead of a 4"? Or could I get a 4" and 2" spacers so I could try both without spending the extra money?

Do all hyd plates have roughly the same amount of travel? I normally run on a really shallow lake (5ft average depth) so I'd like to be able to lift it way up while off plane yet still be able to get it down far enough for skiing and tubing.

It kinda sucks to leave the launch because I have to have it trimmed so high up I cant do anything more than idle without the bow going skyward and the prop going into the muck.
