Lazer by Camstar?

Hello all. ( I moved this post, I hope that is ok...)

I'm not sure if this is where I post this question, but here goes. I just came aquired another project. A friend of mine gave me a hull, it is 12' long and just under 5' wide. The name plate says Lazer and the manufacturer id; Camstar. Anyone ever heard of this boat? I'm not sure what I will do with it, but I it is an interesting boat. When I get the digital camera, I'll try to post pics if anyone is interested in seeing it.

Thanks
Lanny

Ps: The Predictor is coming along, slower than I would like, but she is coming along. Thanks for all the help I have recieved on here.

Boat 2007 001

My 5 year old girl just saw the boat for the first time, she wants me to restore it for her and paint it pink...:o

Got the pics, I will try to get them posted by tomorrow evening. I have a quick run for CM in the morning. But I have seen the boat before. I may even have some literature on it, although it might be from a different builder. It apears this one got around almost as much as the Playmate.

I know what boat this is!

Hey,

You have a Lazer sportboat made originally by Amstar and then by Camstar. It is out of Salt Lake City. The year should be no newer than about 1986. You have a bowrider but it was more popular in the closed deck model. You also have the newer hull style. It was designed to have an aluminum jack plate bolted to the transom. The boat was designed by Ron Gibbs and built as a goof for fun, the company molded fiberglass truck hoods. The earlier model had a standard transom and a "well" like any other outboard. Your boat had an inherent design flaw in the fact that the transom was not strong enough to support the jack plate and the hull would separate at the rub rail between the upper and lower decks. I installed many aluminum reinforcing "stringers" to prevent this. I have pictures of this boat in many different colors and have rigged them with power options from a converted 25hp Evinrude pull start to an E75 Sprint Evinrude with a power transom jack plate. It was very popular with a 40HP and I could water ski on a 30 HP at 41 mph. This boat rigged with a 48 special or full blown 50 HP ripped and would even jump clear of the water if you racked the throttle a few times. I have some old brochures and probably even a video under way if your are interested. I still have a couple of my own and are looking for another. if you want to sell the blank hull let me know.
