Max RPM?

Anyone know the max RPM on a 89' 220 Mariner EFI? I see people talking about running at 6400 all the time and wondering if I can go that high with the old 2.4?

You will get many different answers on this.

I say it will be fine at 6400. If it has oil injection, you may want to add a bit more oil to the fuel. When running above 6K you want more protection. Merc stated a max rpm of 5800 for warr. reasons. These 2.4's make power way past that.

I mix mine at 32:1. But I am also running close to 7000.

It is oil injected and I have been also mixing my gas at 100:1 just to be safe.

Oh yea you are fine. I would try a couple smaller props to get that rpm up there. you may gain both takeoff and top end.

you will be fine. i used to run my old 2.4 higher than that but i eliminated the oil injection because reving them up they tend to fail

yea I'm gonna try maybe a 23p, I'm lucky my checkmate dealer has probably 500 used props and he will trade me straight across. I bought one SS prop about 10 years ago from him and have traded it many times.

Smaller Prop(s)

Just a FYI....Don't expect one prop to give you BOTH better low end and top end. If that does happen then by all means hang on to it because that is a prop that the entire performance boating world has been searching for.....

There is a new prop they say does all that, The Turningpoint Hustler and it's aluminum,
I don't know this first hand this is what the rep told me and what they advertise. I'm waiting for delivery Feb / March. I found they're rated to 300 HP. I'm going to let a few go for demo. The company has high hopes and big claims how this prop works.Heres what it looks like,
