Question for all you supremely knowledgable Merc. people. :eyecrazy:

Are 2.4L and 2.5L Mercury Powerheads, of similar displacement, interchangeable???

Thank you in advance for any light you can shed on this topic.

do you want to put a 2.5 on your 2.4 midsection?

any 2.5 should work in place of a 2.5 and the same for the 2.4. i am unsure if they are interchangable though.

Yes, I want to put a 2.5 powerhead on my 2.4 midsection/lower unit.

You'll find the exhaust plate has larger exh. holes going to the tuner on 2.5, so use the same
plate and tuner that is on the 2.5

ProMax Mid/ 2.4 Bridgeport EFI Powerhead

What plate /tuner do you think should work w/this combination? The ProMax one that's on the mid-section I'm currently using or get a 245 hp tuner or??

I suggest keeping the mid and tuner from the eng. you're installing. It is important to have
the correct mid-plate... the tuner is debatable, and in my opinion, unless you're turning more
than 8000 RPM, any one of them will work fine!

That's my dilemma but you're on the money I think...Just need to know what will be optimal.
Motor has been detuned a bit to make it last. Was running up to 8800 rpm but now will be at or near 8000. Just not sure which tuner is going to handle this power head correctly.. Also needs to be pushing/dumping more water through it so it doesn't burn down. Cooler exhaust too.
I'm thinking that A Pro Max's water dump's weren't the same as the regular 2.5 carb or EFI motors but haven't looked at them close. Just recall them as blowing alot of water out when they ran and not so much on the Pro Max.I have already relieved the exhaust on the mid-section so this will breathe easier.

I don't want to burn down a fresh engine.

Most guys running big numbers will tell you swapping tuners is a bunch of crap. Some will have a bit better holeshot, some better mid, but wide open very little if any change.
