Need Trohy Plus Prop help.

I bought a used 24 - Trophy Plus last summer and never really got around to running it till yesterday.

My set up is a 2100BR - 200HO ETEC - 5"' CMC - 25 pitch Raker tuned down to 24 pitch running max RPM about 5800.

My first run was with 4 of us in the boat, the 4 large plugs in and the cav ring installed. I couldnt get the boat out the water at all. And I mean at all.

I then removed the cav ring and 2 plugs and had just 2 of us in the boat. The boat got up out of the water but I wasnt impressed it took some time. Once up and running it was great, my max RPM was 6000 and probably could have gotten abit more. The boat performed great from 30 mph and up with good power etc and the boats steering was freed up like never before. My set up has always turned hard and this prop made it turn like my vehicles power steering.

I then took the other 2 plugs out and I cant say I really noticed any difference from when I just had the 2 plugs out.

All that being said, any suggestions what I should be doing differently to get this thing out of the water better? It kind of sounds like it is blowing out so maybe I need smaller plugs or something????

Also shouldnt the 4 blade trophy come out of hole better than my 3 blade Raker? Thanks for any help!

You need to determine whether the prop is lugging or spinning on hole shot. Ideally you want the RPM to be around 3000 - 3500 rpm when you hit the gas until you crest over onto plane.

If the prop isn't grabbing you need less air / exhaust. If the prop is lugging you will need the ring off and maybe the holes opened up as well.

Motor height is also a factor. Trophy's are usually are pretty good around 3" below the pad.

Gotta play with the plugs...

Try 2 solid plugs and 2 small hole plugs. You really shouldn't need the blow out ring w/yours but all motors are different. I know when I ran my Yamaha, it hated merc props no matter what I tried. Of course, the load in the boat will change things up too... no good science to it except get some plugs and swap them on the water until it works. Good luck.

I have a 23 pitch trophy plus on my exciter with a 200 merc. I run no ring and med plugs. Excellent holeshot with light load, could probably use
large plugs with more load. Hope this helps. Jon

Trophy

thanks guys, I will have to round up an assortment of plugs and start trying different set ups then. Whats the trick to getting the plugs in and out? This prop I had the plugs were very hard, maybe just because they were old but I pretty much ruined them getting them out.

What height do you have the motor set at? When mine was set to low with Trophy it would not get out of the hole at all. Raised it up then it was good.

I have the manaul CMC all the way up and the motor as high as will go. That puts me at about 2 3/4'' to center of prop shaft. I have always kind of thought it could go up more due to how it steered but I am out of anymore adjustment.

Maybe its time to add more setback with a hydro jackplate:surf: & that way can raise the motor more.

Start with the small ones and drill them out a little at a time with
a cordless drill. You can do it on the water. That way when you get it
right you can put in new ones the size you need. I used needle nose pliers to remove mine. Two or three times and they are toast! Good luck, Jon

If you're that high and the prop is spinning up too much on hole-shot, lower the motor an inch and try again.
