New Boat, need help

My guess is the 28 prop will be to much. I'm running same boat but has open bow. Running bobs nose cone with 8in set back. And a 24p big ear that I cupped and worked myself. With a custom drag plate I built under jack plate to stream line water and prop shaft 1.5in above pad. I run 73gps at 5,600 rpm. With only the last foot of boat in water. With a 150merc. That's had work and heads are 24cc and 135psi. Also 93 octane with 110octane mix. But it's taken me building my own motor and 1yr of fine tuning. !! Also took all wood out of boat. And replaced with aircraft honeycomb. So lost a round 100lbs. Maybe this set up will help you? Best of luck my friend.

Im going to try running a 28p big ear this week hopefully. I was able to turn my small ear to around 5800rpm and could let it live there till I ran out of fuel it was so stable. Pictures of the boat seems like it is flying well but I can not break 60. Put my 26p 4 blade back on and could hit about the same speed but was out of control. Also can blow my 22p past 6000rpm and hit 56mph, so I'm becoming convinced my boat is cursed. My other theory is that I am trimming this thing totally wrong, so any input on how these boats like be trimmed is appreciated. I am still trying to track down a good lower that somebody is selling for a reasonable price, but so far everyone wants their weight in gold for a cracked cle!

As far as the lower unit goes a stock nose cone low water gear case is faster than the cle. Been there done that.the key to getting these boats to fly is nose high. Also it's going to be hard to break over 70 without being able to get your motor up on the transom. Once you do that to get the speed the boat will not like anything under around 50mph. It will propose on you. Because the nose of these boats are heavy and the motor won't be able to keep it up lower than 45mph.

I have a hydraulic jackate on the boat, so getting the motor up the transome is no problem, but I loos water pressure quick and have to put it back down

My all time high with the 150 was 64mph, but I don't think that motor was making the full 150 anymore. I put a nice 3.0l 225 in it and did 80mph before the bay started freezing over, going for low 80's this summer.

64mph with limited seat time sounds about right. That 3 liter may be a bit heavy for that boat, 2.4 or 2.5 is a great set up. 80mph plus gets a bit sketchy in that boat. Be safe and keep us posted on your progress.
