New guy trying to find out info on this boat....

Suncrest Sniper

New member
This thing is 14 ft long and I know it's a checkmate but anyone have a model or year info. I have a chance to take it on a trade deal but the title isn't providing much info. and the HIN is not on the boat. It was tilted simply as a "kit" boat because of a lost title at one point. It is clear with the state just trying to pin point the model and year. Thanks for any help.

Doesn't look like a mate to me but I know nothing on the smaller mates. Curoius to see what it is. What ever it is its cool!

I like it. Don't think its a Hydrostream. Would be neat to know what it is. I'm thinkin speeds in the mid 40's.

I checked with the gang at the Hydrostream forums and they pointed me in this direction. I then googled images and was able to come up with one that sold a month ago on the east coast and it claimed it was a 14 ft checkmate. It just didn't state year or model. The current owner claims that currently it run in the low 40's which is fine with me. Just looking for something to cruise the local lake a block a way from my house.

Not a Checkmate....

Yea....that's not a Checkmate....does look like a Hydrostream from front but not side : )

Well here's the deal, checkmate is the only one that made a 14 ft'er and so far the only picture on the web I can come up with shows the same boat just in red, white, and blue. The thing looks like this one from the side shot. Do you have any images of a 14 ft to prove me wrong??

UMMM, Kip doesn't need images, if he tells you it is not a Checkmate than you can pretty well bet that it is not a Checkmate.

Kip Combs is the son of Bill Combs the founder of Checkmate Boats. rest assured it is not a Checkmate.

Now let's continue the search to find out what it is...

O.K., you're right. It really is a Checkmate and everyone is just holding out on you. We can't prove you wrong. Take care.

The only 14ft Checkmate that was anything like the style of this boat was the Playmate gt which only had 1 bench seat to hold 2 people and it stll really doesn't look that much like you boat.

Who cares who made it.. If it runs, has a clean title and you can make some money off it or want to use it; than take it!!

Hell, have a sticker made up with your name and tell everyone you made it. Its a unique looking little boat.. enjoy it and have fun.

:welcome:

hey ss. if you stand faceing the back of the boat, there should be a serial # on the left side, right below the rub rail. it is on the transom. that is the passenger side of the boat. if the serial # starts of with a cm and the last two digits are numbers. then it is a checkmate and those last two numbers are the year it was made. if it does not have the serial # there then it is my privalige to prove you wrong. others on here can verify that all checkmate's have a # stamped into the hull in this area.

EZ there not all on the left. Mine is on the right!(Starboard)

my bad.:shakehead: it is on the transom right? most all i have seen has been on the left side. maybe its because of the older hulls. anyway am i right about the # starting with cm and the last two digits being the year it was made?

Just speaking of mine. The first three are CHK and yes on the last 2 the year.

I hate to mention the B word here for fear of retribution from YF but, is this possibly a early 70's Baja Speedster? Oh, I noticed that it might be in my neck of the woods too. The only thing is that I don't remember the fuel fill up on deck.

Sorry for the lack of response guys I've been sick that last few days. Any ways I have to come to find out that the owner is claiming there is HIN number on the boat and that the title says 65' MFG on it. I called the deal off due to the fact that things just don't add up and this may be why he was trying to do a trade rather than cash directly. I've decided to pass on it and am going to restore my 58' Biesmeyer flat bottom ski boat instead. Thanks for the help as for me back to the mend.
