no spark

bought 92 150xr6 , got to the point where i could fire it, and got no fire. got spark on one cylinder. was told this was running motor, i guess just not for me. could it be coils? what do you guys think? would be thankful of your input.

Electrical problems can make you crazy. :brickwall: I just fixed one on my engine that was simply a crushed wire behind a mounting plate leading to the coil. I like that kind of fix, but usually a no spark can be coils (need to test each one by switching to the working cylinder) or other electricals such as the stator, voltage regulator, or switchbox. I'm not familiar with your engine. You will need a service manual for your motor and a good multimeter....and lots of patience...or fist full of Franklins for the dealer to fix it...;)

thanks bud, gonna start with the coils. If i have fire on the one cylinder, i should be able to put that coil on another cylinder and if it fires its the coil right? do they normally go bad like that? thank you

With spark only on 1/6, my guess is it will be a switchbox or two - but could be a stator? Way to expensive of (non-returnable) parts to guess. You will need a service manual for specs and a good multimeter...and lots of patience..../:pissed:

I am sure you checked this but just in case you didn't, make sure the kill switch is on. You will can still get a small amout of spark with it in the off poition.
There is also a very easy ohm test you can do on the stator to know for sure if its good or bad. you just have to disconnect tihe leads from the switchboxes and test across the two leads I believe you should get a reading of 5400-6300ohms. I really doubt all the coils are bad at the same time,But like 82dip said, Get a manual Look it over it will be the best 35 bucks you ever spent if you are going to fix you own issues.
