OK guys, I may have finally found my Motor!!!

Hey Guys, in the past Ive asked numerous Horsepower and weight questions to re-power my 1982 'Mate Enticer 16ft Open bow (same hull as predictor), anyways at 1 of this years boat shows a longtime Evinrude employee about mid 60s age wise came in looking to repower his Princecraft from a 1996 175 Intruder 60degree V6 to a 175 Etec, well we are getting the Intruder soon, his Etec is in, the cool thing is this dude is a Evinrude freak, the motor I guess has been babied, he has several NEW stainless OMC props in the boxes, some new cowls even for the motor. Im getting her for $2000 which is what I have in it. Im thinkin this should take my Lil excellent condition Enticer to the 70s safely, Im not going to push this hull or boat, I just want a Sick hole shot, and monster power all the way to 70. I know the small pad is not designed for high speeds, i know it can be done, but with my driving skills still being sharpened I dont want to find out the hard way. Anyone ever hear of a Predictor or Enticer with a similar setup? Or the hull with a 175 Yamahammer or Mercury/Mariner? Now, guys, in a perfect world is a 4inch the perfect setback for my jack plate, or 6,8 ot 10inch? Ive read alot about the 4inchers seeming to work, but the more I read Im not sure why 6or 8 wouldnt also. See I can get 8 inch Slidemasters new from my bass boat company for cheap. Sorry for the Long Azzzz post, just wanna ask before I rig and buy....Thanks Guys. Brannon 920-295-2069

I am no jonnyrude expert( on an expert in anything for that matter:)) but it seems like you are getting a killer deal on that 175, From the sounds of it you will get more than 2 Gs in just props!! With a fairly light hull and a good 24p 4 blade prop I think you should be able to get close to 70 and keep a decent hole shot. hopefully others with this hull will chime in with there setups
Good luck!

I run a modified evinrude 150 on my skimate, (16'3" tri hull) it is a lil rocket anywhere from idle to WOT. I suggest you practice ALOT at slow acceleration and in different water conditions. You will require negative trim, at least on the skimate, I can drive thru the chine walk, thats the easy part. Slowing down is where it gets nasty (slow and easy kind just set the hull back in the water) . I run in the upper 70's.

i'm not an evinrude guy, but i believe the weight of those is around the same as a merc v-6 so setup should be similar. i'd go with 6" of setback, i have 4" on my predictor and wished i had a little more. i would think a prop in the 25-26 pitch range would be a good start. prop shaft a couple inches under the pad...dual cable steering or hydraulic, solid motor mounts and see how it goes. i'd suggest a water pressure gauge as well, you don't want to find out the motor is up too high the hard way.

I looked up several outboard and did the Hp/weight ration.. The 2 strokes all seem to be within pretty close in weight to each other.

Engine --------H/P-------Weight------H/P to weight Ratio
'88 Evinrude---150--------390---------0.385
'84 Evinrude---120--------350---------0.31
2000 Merc---- 135------- 417---------0.323
87 Black Max--150------- 375----------0.4
'10 Merc proxs-115--------375-------- 0.310
2010 Etec ho--115-------369--------- 0.311
'70s Evinrude--115------ 301--------- 0.382
I din't look up the 175, but i bet its around 390 - 400lbs

Wow... you're only running 4" of setback? I figured 6-8".. great #s outta that rig.:thumb:

Sounds like a great deal. I had the same motor on a seaswirl spider, 17.5' and a totally different type of hull, but the 175 was a powerhouse. i ran 6" set back and a 22 raker prop to about 65mph. it was set up more for boarding than speed but was still a blast when you wanted to suprise some of the boats around here.

The 60 degree Intruder was the best motor OMC made. Fast, simple and reliable. I had a buddy with one on a 17 footer and he got 70 mph out of her.

update

I do have pics, but heres what I have to do, My boats 3hrs north, I have to go to the family farm, get a truck, get the boat, check all of the bearings and head home. I also am buying/trading a customer for a brand new in the box 4inch Hydraulic Heavy duty series Jack Plate from Bobs Machine, I think with the 175 Intruder, that Jack plate, and Not being cocky but my boats unique/rare color combo it should be a Killer package. Anyone looking for a Extra clean Johnson 140 Crossflow V4 with controls and props let me know, Its the original motor on my Enticer, it runs beautifully, It was decarbed at purchase, 100% gone thru by a 30 veteran of OMC at our marina. I just want my boat to LAUNCH when fully loaded, and this will do it. You can call me day or night at 920-295-2069 Its a killer year for that motor, Big Carbs, supposedly best heads, bubble back exhaust, internal trim and tilt (not the old side style) and the cowl is super nice, decals are super nice, it has a way more aggresive decal pkg than some years, Big V4 black decals on ends, charcoal and orange fadding decals with johnson 140 in big letters...Brannon

Guys I have pics but how the hell do I load them? The boats getting a free lift down here by my best friend, then we start with the steering system,I decided to save some cash and get a 6inch Manual Slidemaster jack plate, great quality, way less $$$ and EZ. I have a small soft spot where the drivers feet go and a 1/4 size one where the rear couch feet go, i figure Ill pop her out, check the stringers etc, hopefully they are dry and rot free,if not it will be a NIGHTMARE......Wish us luck. Brannon

OH NO, you are not going to be happy, if the wood is soft at the floor it will be worse down at the stringers. I don't think anyone has got lucky and only found rotton wood at the floor/deck level.
Here's hoping you are lucky and you only have a little damage.
