old woodies

How far along are you on the crackerbox? looked through your pics. Beautiful. What kind of power are you looking at? Do you have a build thread going somewhere other than photobucket?

What you see in the photobucket album is where I am still at. I have a Vortec 4.3L V-6 MPI for it. Bought the motor with only 5 hours on it. The seller realized it was too small for the boat he purchased and had the dealer drop in a 5.7L. I just have to get a custom computor for it since it was set up for a I/O originally. I will be using a ZF Hurth 45A trans so I can get the motor angle lowered to 6 degrees. (14 degree strut). Should clip off about 48 to 50 mph. That speed along with the flat bottom (3 degree deadrise) should give me a backache.

No other thread on the build.

Well, you are doing a great job. Keep up the good work. I was intrigued by a 16' Hacker that was for sale. Already have enough boats and nowhere to keep a woody. Sure purdy thou...

I think the Hacker 16' Speedster (in your pic) and the California based flat bottom race boat is what inspired Glen-L Marine to come up with the plans that I purchased. I go every year to the Clayton, NY Antique Boat Show and Auction for inspiration. They have had the Speedster on display. Now that I have a house 10 miles down river from there it is real easy to go to the show.

While I do love my Starflite, I have to admit, there is nothing like an old (or new) Woodie.

JT , i was thinking of maybe doing a Gentry by Glen -L

The Gentry is a fine boat. That plan calls for the cold molded process where mine is sheet plywood construction. I am adding the 1/4" layer of mahogany on top of the plywood. The Gentry is a stronger hull just by the build process.

I hope you do start the build. There is definatly a strong sense of accomplishment as you construct an old style wooden hull.
