Does anyone else here love those old wood boats? I love the look, ride and lines. How many makes were there for wood boats?
How many styles were made?:D

My neighbor has a Century, I believe it is a 16' or so. Fantastic looking boat and I bet the ride is the same. I love the look of teak when done correctly, I HATE the look of Sikkens, I like the depth you get when there is about 10 coats of varnish on them. I do the wood work on my Dad's Egg Harbor, although it is time consuming, it looks great when done.

where i live wood boats are HUGE!!!!

muskoka is a meca for wood boats with many manufacturers around in the early part of the 1900's. many of these boats are still around today. the marina i worked at dealt with all sorts of wooden boats, with values approaching 1.5 million. one of my closest friends has a wooden boat restoration business and is booked until fall 2012 right now!

love the old wood boats, hated having them around the marina though - one dropped screwdriver meant a 10k repair - yikes!

our local manufacturers were:

greavette
minett-shields
duke
ditchburn

here's a site with lots of wood boat pics and video:

Every year, the first weekend of August I go to the Antique Boat Show and Auction in Clayton, NY. They usually have 50+ nicely restored woodies in the water.

There is a small company just up the road from me that builds wooden and glass boats . cant say i was ever a fan until i actually laid a hand on one. The boats are absolute jewels but the price is north of 150k. but if money were no object what a cool toy. http://www.cherubiniyachts.com/20.html

Those boats are beautiful. But remember, they are all fiberglass!
funny you should mention that i added glass after i read my post sorry. the top deck and all the insides appeared wood, but maybe you have seen these boats . there was a used one sitting in the showroom at all seasons marina in marmora right up the road from you. i think its a 24 , maybe its still there. i think it was over 100k used

I hope you are a patient person. With buying the house up in the 1000 Islands, working on the house here in Cape May getting it ready to sell
and working on the Starflite not much has been done on the Crackerbox
over the last year.

I can fabricate just about anything but time! And there is not enough of that!

I really do want to finish the Cbox.

no there is definatly not enough time and money to go around. i'll let ya know when i figure out how to make time.lol

Yep,,, if we could fabricate more time out in our garages we would be in great shape!

Don't mean to hi-jack the thread...

Need a little help, a couple years back (I think) there was a thread that had pictures of some new modern wooden power boats. These things were absolutely amazing works of art...very sleek hull designs with very modern lines. I can't find the thread...does anyone remeber the name of the manufacturer?

I think you may be refering to Hacker Craft. A company in the Lake George, NY region bought the rights to the name and the blueprints of those old boats. These are all wood, not fiberglass look alikes. They are pricey, but they are quality. They use Phillipine Mahogany just as the originals were made. The Antique Boat Museum in Clayton bought their 30' model and for $20.00 you can get a 20 - 30 minute ride. They may be a flat bottom design but they have a real nice ride quality to them.

To stay away from some of the USCG stringent rules they don't make any of the models under 21'.

Lymans of all types, sizes and ages are in the water on the St. Lawerance River, NY. Very well built lap strake boats.

B-D ,seeing that you have an interest in wooden boats i will post # 23 pics overall of wooden boat's that were made here in Holland Mich (GRAND CRAFT) that are .....re production Mahogany runabouts on my thread which is on Endless Boating who also has just recently closed there doors ..........

How far along are you on the crackerbox? looked through your pics. Beautiful. What kind of power are you looking at? Do you have a build thread going somewhere other than photobucket?
