Opinions on bow light

Old Navy

My bow light has about gotten torn off a few times. The pop up cleat that I use for the anchor line is astern of the light and the anchor line catches on it. I see two brands of pop up bow lights- Accon and Aqua Signal. Opinions welcome regarding these lights. Thanks.

I like the idea of being able to lower the bow light out of the way. I thought about doing something like that on the Playmate but there is a plywood stiffener that runs the length of the bow deck that keeps me from such a modification. I do marvel at how well made the Playmate is because the bow deck holds both Mrs. Jim and myself and has never even given out even one creak or groan.

more work but the tear drop looking ones that go into the hullside work the best and you don't have to pop them up when needed...I used them in my 251 and worked great..

I dont like the idea if having to crawl out to pop up the bow light. I am going to replace my big semi ugly chrome and plastic one with one of those low profile LED white ones.

I hated the look of the standard bow light. Since everything else is flush mounted, I added the pop up light.
Just a bit of cutting and it it fit right in.
I rarely run at night anymore so the only negative is that you need to manually open the light.
Accon light but I don't remember how much or where I bought it from

BUDMAN That is it! I can't find a gelcoat guy to make the holes go away so it is way easier to cut a bigger hole. Do you like the quality of the light? THX

The light is great. Quality light. it's not cheap pot metal.
No need to cover any holes.
Just use the template and it will cover up any existing holes.
There is a slight curve to the bow and the light is flat but it's very minimal and some white silicone will fill it in.

As soon as somebody makes one that is powered and flips up automatically when you turn on the light, I'll change mine. I run at night just about everytime I have the boat out, so crawling out there, especially after a day of beverages, to flip the light just doesn't seem like fun to me. Even though I love the smooth look of them. Until then, I'll just do a low profile LED one.

^^Im with Corey on this one. Really only needs to be power up in my mind. I think a spring loaded version with a latch that releases when the lights turned on would work. Easy to fold down once docked or on the trailer.

Get one you can lock down. Ours kind of snaps down with a spring and when we run it hard in rough water it slaps up/down/up/down. Very annoying and I'm waiting for one time when it goes up and comes flying back at us.

Looks like this. http://www.atgstores.com/marine-lig...wGDGIHWIFAI1ud_6Z0XpLhoCH57w_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds I'm not 100% sure though as the boat is in storage.
Looks like an older version? The video shows the 211-M as the led version
It also doesn't show the locking mechanism.
The light is spring loaded to pop up when you pull the spring loaded latch and locks securely.
that's the one I have except I have the LED lights.
Never had a problem with it opening up.
This is the LED and you can see the latch.

Appreciate the input from all. I'm ordering the LED version of the Accon light. (and a bigger blower, don't tell my wife!)

That's great! Looks like I can upgrade mine to the one with the latch. My boat is a03 that's why it came with the older light. Thanks!
