Paint help on 89 Predictor

That should make life easier. When my trailer fell apart I had actually just bought the boat. It was a Mirage(Similar to an STV), light blue, with a 200 Mariner on it. It was about 12 years ago, and I had to drop another couple grand on a new trailer. What a pain, but the boat was pretty fast. Keep up the good work on this.

wow, I took a test ride in a blue mirage with a 200 mariner on it about that long ago down in Mass. Where did you get the boat from?

I bought it from a guy that lived in Mass somewhere. I really can't remember, but I test drove it on a little pond in Wenham, MA. The boat was great, but I blew the engine the 1st season with it. Then I got a Merc 200 and almost killed myself going into the wind. My wife made me get rid of the "Death Trap". I went to the Checkmate from there, and I love these boats. 85 mph is fun, but jumping all over the lake at 68mph is a blast too. And you don't have to worry about blowing over.

Thats the boat we test drove. It was on a little lake in Wenham Mass. The guy was at the Boston Boat show with it.
I remember that it was not set up to good. It had a manual jack plate that was set up to high, and the motor didnt have a nose cone/low water pick-up. It was a nice boat. You have to be pretty brave and EXPERIENCED to run a boat like that. I went from a checkmate at 60mph, to a nordic tunnel with a 200 at 80 mph, to the eliminator at 100mph. You have to be careful with the wind and the trim, but its a blast. Still love the checkmate though.

That's amazing. Yeah, I saw the boat listed at the Boston Boat Show. What a small world. I actually put a land & sea jack plate on it, and had a low water pick up put on up in Hooksett, NH. It definately helped, but the engines hours were numbered from the start. Like all high end speed boats you have to know that going in to it though.

I just dug up a picture of the mirage that I took when we took it out. I will scan it at work tomorrow so you can see. By the way we bought the eliminator from performace boats in Hookset. It is a small world indeed.

When are you gonna shoot the primer?
Also I remember you mentioned that this is going to be a complete resto job... are you going to get the interior from checkmate or have your exsisting seats re upholstered?
this should really be something special when you are done. i cant wait to see it finished.

I am having the seat re-upholstered by a guy in maine. Just bought a new compressor and spray gun, but havent ordered paint/primer yet. It will be a little while, still got pleanty to keep busy with.

Coop,
Probably should sand the whole thing huh, that gelcoat is thick stuff.

Looks like my old boat. That's crazy. I told my wife about it, and she was amazed. She told me that you probably thought I was afraid to run it up, but I know you wouldn't think that. Because we both like boats that go fast!! There's nothing like running up a tunnel hull.
I spoke to my friend with the vking, and he is definately updating his engine. The Pro-Max has about 100 hours on it, nose cone, low water p/u, and he said he would include the thottle box. The only problem with it is a malfunctioning alarm in the box. It beeps a lot, even when you don't need oil. You have to either disconnect the alarm, or deal with it. Once you get up to speed it's not that annoying.

thats funny my throttle box now does the same thing.
I will have to think about it, how much does he want for it? Things are kind of tight right now, my wife is having a baby sometime this month.

My checkmate and my wife. (before the resoration and before the pregnancy)

This was taken in 2000 I think. Well before I had a digital camerea. My scanner stinks so the quality is not very good.

How's the boat coming, It's been a while since we have seen any progress.
Have you decided whether you are going to sand the rest of the gel on the bottom?

I found out that CheckmateKing was my Brother playing a joke on me. The part that sucked the most was that there is no 150promax for sale.
