Power Chips

Anyone have experience with power chips or power programmers . The vehicle is a 1996 Tahoe , 5.7 liter Votex . I'm trying to figure out if they actual work and or which model for my Chevy . I prefer first hand knowledge please , no hear-say ...
Thanks ,
Steve S

I would go on a Chevy/GMC truck forum(or two) and look around a bit. You'll get way better information that way.
I'm on 2 forums for my GMC diesel, I could give you great tuning info if you were asking about a Duramax, but that's because I spent some time on those forums. I do know that not all tuners are created equal when it comes to a Duramax, so it is likely true for gas trucks too.

I talked with my nephew (mechanic) , he advised me go to a dyno shop where they tune the motor and trans test everything on a dyno and can show you or print out the graphs with all the data , rear wheel hp , etc .
Would be money well spent verses buying the programmer and doing it myself.

yes, have done several, get one of the ones you can taylor yourself, octane, tow, etc, and fine tune trans shifts, removing the torque management and dialing in the trans shifting makes all the difference in the world on driveability

Most shops that have a dyno will be able to tune your truck. Find a reputable shop in your area.

Typically... when you tune a trans for performance it is not recommended to tow any real weight. The shift points and firmness are all wrong.

For your truck there are few options that will actually be worth the money. Your computer is only programmable to a certain extent. Programmers cost a lot and offer very little for your year.

Back when I was in the accessory biz we had the best luck with a K&N intake and a JetChip on those 96-98 Chevy's. The Jetchip replaces the factory computer.

Good luck.
