Pulsare top speeds

JY,

By the way, what are you seeing for top speeds with that ZT230/496HO? That thing has got to fly.

Jy... NICE BOAT! One of my favorite CHECKMATES

Craig is right with running a motor hard (above 3500 thru the prop). One option you may want to try is a cross-breed exhaust, meaning it has the thru hull open up top, AND the prop side is also wide open (some silent choice systems usually close off one or the other). By letting the exhaust go to BOTH the thru-hulls AND the prop, the noise comes down considerably underway. What happens is the the prop side actually acts as a vaccum for the exhaust... it will "pull" some of the exhaust and noise down thru the prop, and effectively reduce the noise level coming out the thru-hulls.

Another trick is a Corsa "Balance Tube" between the sides of the exhaust pipes. It will help the sound waves cancil out and balance from side to side making a lower tone and less annoying exhaust note with the thur-hulls.

Either of these tips my help you keep the neighbors happy and still keep the performance and sound of that sweet Checkmate in check!

I guess the Pulsare Top Speed thread has been hi-jacked be big block exhaust posts, sorry.

On my 496HO, I have some tips that will accept baffle inserts that I bought from Eddie Marine. These take the harsh "crack" out of the exhaust noise, allow it to still sound like a big block, and also I can take them out whenever I want with one bolt for running WOT.

JKieper, my buddy's 225 EFI 3.0 does not hesitate out of the hole. The reason my Promax could take him out of the hole was prop size and gear ratio. I had 6500 rpms to play with (Promax) and he only had 5800 rpms (standard fishin' motah). I had 1.87:1 gears, and he has 1.62:1 gears. So I had lower ratio gears AND shorter pitch prop, so mine spun up much quicker and had more low-end torque, despite being .5 liters smaller displacement.

So you know of 3.0 225 EFI motors that hesitate out of the hole? Something wrong there, like maybe the TPS is mis-adjusted?

I recently had the pleasure of testing the 2005 pulsair 2100br,300x, speedmaster drive 27" tempest prop and newly installed 10" power lift setback plate, prior runs hit mid 80's on gps, after the set back was increased from 5" to 10" the top speed on gps so far has been confirmed at 102.7 mph @6500 rpm anyone else playing with the set up? rear exaust hose pops off on 300x, anyone else with this problem?

WOOOOOOH....

I'll have my new 2006 2100 Longdeck set up with a 300x and 16.5" of setback in a couple weeks. Then we'll see if it's capable of over 100 or not.

It would be the first Pulsare I recall hearing hitting 100.

From what I've read on the board, it seems most of the 300x powered 2100's have owners reporting speeds in the low 90's.

The prop calculations, even with a 1.62 gear with that prop, puts it in the low 90's. 102 is with 0% slip.

Your Pulsare runs 102.7? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I was not in the boat so I can only attest to what I have seen on my GPS and that is 91.7 but I can say the boat will definitely go faster. I gave thefix (mechanic that setup the boat) and another person at the Marina permission to find out what the boat would do as they both have allot more experience with high performance boats. Their speed of 102.7 was measured by a handheld GPS.

The Strocker 21 foot and 300X tested by Popular Mechanics that ran 100 MPH weighs about the same as the Pulsare 2100BR

Congratulations on the new Pulsare they are awesome boats and the 300X is amazing

It will be interesting to hear how your 16.5” of setback works. Changing from 5” to 10” and raising the motor made a huge difference in lessening the tendency to chinewalk. Good luck with the new beast please keep us posted on how the 16.5” of setback works.

I remember that PM acticle on the Stratos. They incorrectly recorded the hull weight at 1200 lbs. The 21 XL weighs 1350 lbs, the same as a 21 Pulsare. It makes you think, at least theoretically, that 100 MPH is possible in a Pulsare as well. Prop calculator shows 102.7 is 6% slip with a 27" prop. Low, but attainable under the right conditions. My 16' Diplomat runs at 5% slip(although it only weighs 850 lbs).

SL, all I can say is wow and congrats.

It sounds like you and thefixx nailed the ultimate setup for a Pulsare.

I would think there are going to be a few members ordering some parts.

Oops, I miscalculated. 102.7 mph is 0% slip with 27" prop, 6500 rpm and 1.62 gear ratio. Still, I think the 100 mph Pulsare is possible. I'm looking forward to what the Wildman ends up with.

For a cupped prop add 1" for 28"; calculates out to 4% slip at 102.7 MPH @ 6500 RPM, remember the rev limit is 7000 RPM

Also remember that at 102+ MPH any glances at the tachometer are short in duration

I just measured the top of the factory CMC 10" jackplate with it in the full-up position. The top of the plate is only 21 inches above the pad. That means even if the motor is put all the way up in the last mounting hole, {3" more up} the nose will still be 4" below the bottom. Im going to have to make a custom bracket to get the motor up high enough. The highest you can bolt the plate on is WAY to low. A 15" mid motor would fit better.
