Spark Plug for '91 XR4

Hey Guys,

I's trying to find the current recommended spark plug for a '91 XR4.

I need the Champion and NGK model numbers.

I looked everywhere and can't find a cross reference for the two.

I believe the latest correct one in a NGK is BU8H, but I'm not 100%.

What I really want to know is the correct Champion plug.

Thanks for your help. :)

I just checked, and the current ones in it are Champion QL6VC.

They were just put in it this spring by our local marina.

There's nothing worse than putting your boat away in the fall and it runs great and taking it out in the spring and it runs like chit. :brickwall:

That's why they come installed from the factory w/ NGK. Maybe they know something about how their product will run best too!

all we ever ran was ngk, if the plug is a bu8h you best run the buz8h, it's a more expensive plug but you will be able to here the radio without engine noise.

I never had any ignition noise with BU8H on my XR6, XR2, or my 225 Promax. I wonder if I got lucky, or if some engines will exhibit noise while others won't. I didn't have any EFI issues with the 225 either.

in canada, our techs are required by law to only install resistor type plugs in engines (for example br6fs or buz8h) this was for radio interferance - which i have experianced and also due to pacemakers and the fun that can happen with those things (no experiance there). that's why in a new mercury box you'll find the standard american plugs (non resisiotor type) and also an extra set of resistor plugs.

the one thing that i don't understand is- if its law to install resistor only plugs how come you can buy non resistor plugs at the local auto parts store?

Mercs like the NGK's, But BRP's like the Champions. You cant get a set of NGK's to last on a Rude, and It sounds like you cant get a set of Champions to last on a Merc. I like bud light what will you have..............

You'll pay over $100 for a set of BUZ8H in Canada. I use the BU8H in my 200 EFI with no problems whatsoever.
