Steering wheel STUCK!!!!

fiftyp

Active member
Alright I need some help here...

I am trying to install a new steering wheel in my Enforcer but I can not
get the old one off...

I have removed the center hub cover, removed the locking nut, removed
the star washer. The keyed hub should now slide off the shaft so I think.

WILL NOT BUDGE... sprayed some penetrating oil on it, sat over night..
STILL NOTHING...

Am I missing something here? do I need like a bearing puller?

:pissed:

Thread the nut back on so the threads on the shaft are even with the end of the nut. Depending on your ability to use legs and hands together pull hard on the steering wheel while giving the shaft a firm rap with a hammer. It should pop off. The idea of threading the nut on is to keep from damaging the threads. Don't go ape on it.

Should I hit down on the side of the shaft, or do I need to try and hit
it from behind motion moving towards my pull?

hit it right on the end of the steering shaft... and if you have an air hammer, it takes 1 shot of air and it comes right off

You didn't tighten the nut all the way down did you?:)

What type of system do you have? It's for sure not a Ride Guide square shaft rack or something is it?

One condsideration that was overlooked was a pair of threaded
holes in the hub to use a convetional steering wheel puller. I had the same problem, but used the method that xsive used and it popped off right away. Since then, I have drilled and taped two holes in the hub to eliminate that hassel from happening again.

Nope.. plenty of room between the hub on the shaft and the nut.

And the shaft is round for sure, can see it from the front and back..

Gonna try and get my hands on a puller.

Another easy way to get the wheel off is to screw the nut back on untill its about an eigth of an inch away from the wheel itself, have someone pull back on the wheel, while another person taps the end of the nut with a hammer, it should pop off.. Note.. dont beat the crap out of it, someone may have burred it when they put it on.

You just need more beef! Do I need to drive over to Warren and do it for you? :rof:
Time to start working out! :bigthumb::rof:
