Besides directly from Checkmate and ebay etc. are there any good places to pick up stock wheels?

What do you mean by stock wheels? Do you mean stock as in what Checkmate installs?

Hey Boston Predictor, the only thing I'd say about the Year One wheel is that I don't think it's stainless steel. To see some cool stainless wheels, go to http://www.grantproducts.com and click on the Marine icon. Check out each section and keep clicking on wheels because sometimes there may be different versions of each one pictured when you click on it. My boat has one of the old ones like you're looking for, but I think it's stainless because the horn button has started to pit, but not the wheel. I don't see a stainless version of it on Grants site anymore. I'm getting ready to order a stainless center cap for mine from Advance Auto Parts website (http://www.partsamerica.com)

Chris,

Yes, I am looking for a factory Checkmate wheel. Preferably a small diameter three-spoke design.

Give Mike a call and he can probably tell you where they originally got them. Maybe the company is still around ya never know. It's worth a try.

Good find with the Grant wheels fellas.

It looks like some of the year ones are probably made by Grant. A few of the pics look to be the same.

Those old school wheels are kewl looking.

I just checked. A bunch of the Year One wheels are made by Grant. Year one is cheaper too it looks like.

Go to the year one site and look under....

>Interior
>Steering Wheels
>Grant
>Classic Series Custom Wheels

On the wheel I compared Grant was 39 bucks, Year One 31.95.

Livorsi have a wireless unit you can install on many wheels. I don't know how well they work, but I've been eyeballing them.

Wireless Trim

I am installing the turnsignal style in mine. One for trim and the other for the jackplate. Had the stuff on the wheel. Did not care for it much.

Maybe you should give them a call.

I would ask about it getting wet and possibly corroding. And it would also make sense to inquire about what kind of adapters and hub you would need for marine use and whether it's available.

I would just call Grant directly. Maybe they have even more styles available. Who knows?

the old 3 spoke wheels from checkmate in the 70's were chrome plated steel. You don't want that they just pit. You can get the exact same wheel from grant in stainless steel that is the best bet. Grant won't sell direct though I don't think. When we buy our wheels they will still sell us small numbers because we have delt with them forever but now if you want to buy from them you need to buy HUGE numbers.
