Have you ever tried a 4 blade comprop? They make them for that motor and i love rynning them on my john boat with 60 hp merc....
 
I haven't tried any composite props yet . Do you mean for the 20 hp or the 60 hp motor .

No I'm not putting decals on another motor . DNR checks for that and the Fines are rather expensive ! These guys will board your vessel and they are not fooling around . We all know by now that when you try to take short cuts , It Will bite you on the arse in the long run .

But ; If someone wants to donate a newer 30 hp Merc 4stroke , I'll put 20 hp decals on and we'll see how long it takes DNR to catch on .... Don't worry I'll pay for the fines if you donate the motor since they're probably the same in cost .

For your 25 HP. They give good performance from the ones I have used on small outboards.

Can you add a little shot of Nitrous just to get on plane? I love this thread.

You need to learn how to do carbon fiber layup and lose some more weight.
 
I'd probably burn a piston with nos , would need more fuel , work the exhaust , solid hub , etc . etc ... besides the motor is just "broken in" . I ran 350 chevy with directly ported nitrous , 12 inch tunnel ram , two holley double pumpers . Like getting kicked on the arse .

With the limitations set forth by laws , I think the next step (radical) would be to re-shape the hull . IF I were to I would : turn it over , cut the hull 3 inches below the floor , replace the stringers for a flat bottom or semi vee'd shape , sheet and glass it .

But it is what it is and that's fine with me . I oughta quit worrying about it and just get out on the water .
 
Added 15 lbs. of weight in the bow , in front of the fuel tank . I was out today running the 11.5" pitch prop by myself . Boat comes up on plane nicer than ever . 6000 rpms at 24 mph/gps .

I haven't ordered the 9.5" x 12.5" pitch prop yet .
 
I put 50 decals on my 110 and DNR said nothing.But gave me alot of b.s about the checkmate decal on the boat.Its registerd and titled as a home made boat. Looked at the guy and said it is home made i just named it Checkmate:eyecrazy:
 
Trying to find out the exact amount of the fine for running a larger motor . I was told by one person that along with the fine is being "Banned" from the state park . Not cool .

The burden of proof is on them in any case. If your motor is marked as whatever you say it is then they have to prove it is not. Not easy to do in like engine families. Personally, I wouldnt have the slightest qualm about it and I'd be looking for every possible way to build a 50 HP marked motor that looked like a 20.

I have a 105 HP marked Merc V6 on the back of my boat. Says so right on the Mercury tag.
 
Was out today with the wife , still had to lean forward on the seat . The nose came down in less time than before . Going to add ten more pounds in the bow for a total of 25 lbs . Speed was 23 mph at 5800 rpm .
 
having a boat that doesn't run, and summer not being quite over, I can humbly say that im jealous of a guy that has a 20hp motor rocketing him to 23 mph.

over 1 mph/ hp is pretty damn impressive! too bad I wasn't terrorizing the water at 175+ mph earlier this season. . .
 
Today I replaced the weight in front of the fuel tank . There was 15 lbs , now changed to 30 lbs . I used an old sand bag shooting rest , perfect fit . I'm going to try to slip down to the lake this afternoon and test the change in balance .
 
I've decided to machine two " half step " blocks to work with the trim pins . The next setting is too much , but the current setting could have more angle to get the thrust parallel to the direction of travel . Pin to pin adjustment is 1/2" of travel , going to make these 1/4" thick . Gotta ring out every little bit . The goal for hauling myself is set at 27 mph . Still haven't ordered the 9.5 x 12.5 prop .
 
Just got back from a solo run at the lake . With the 30 lbs of weight in the front , the boat comes up on plane perfectly . Combined with the motor trimmed up a half step I had solid 25 mph/gps runs with one at 26 mph/gps . The 9.25 x 11.5 is turning 6200 rpms . Time to call Ron Hill Marine and order the 9.5 x 12.5 cleaver .
 
Got the new prop ordered . After talking with Ron about my set up and numbers we decided on a 9.25" x 13" . Interestingly Ron told me over in Japan they're racing 20hp 4 strokes with 10 x 16 props . Someone over there is making nose cone kits for the 20's and they are running 1 to 2 inches above the pad at high 30's mph . hhmmm ... I'm sure their boats are well under 560 lbs though .
