The little Check that could

There was something I learned . While shifting the weight around I figured out that it was ok to have more wetted surface of the hull verses the depth of the stern while running . Bringing the bow down forced the stern higher . This may not apply to boats with higher horse power . In my case changing the "X" balance lowered the bow around 10 inches or so . Not to mention how smoothly the boat runs through chop and wakes . It did fine before but handles it even better now .
 
Here's another thing I learned about the propeller . I let a friend drive it ( he has a 24' cabin cruiser , I wasn't worried at the time) . Long story short , he dinged the prop coming into shore .

So while I was filing the dings out I notice that the leading edge is at a 90 degree angle to the front and back sides of the blade . Now think about the angle of attack when the propeller is rotating , this cuts into the water like an arrow head , however this shape must cause some force forward . Since all propellers actually slip I figured it was more prudent to address rotation direction before direction of thrust .

I decided to finish the leading edge with a bevel . Now when you look at the prop the leading edge is 90 degrees to the direction of travel but now is edged perpendicular to the angle of attack . Bottom line , it increased the rpms by 100 .

Wrap your head around that one .
 
Test run after work today .
I did a good one yesterday , I moved the sand bag forward by 12" and fastened it . In the process of squeezing myself around the fuel tank to get at the counterweight , I got stuck . Took me 30 minutes to free myself and get out . Wife wanted to call the fire dept. I said no way ! they may want to cut the boat to get me out . I rather lay here and starve till I'm skinny enough to fall out ! I'm all scratched up but fine otherwise . Just glad I didn't run into any big spiders :eyecrazy: I would have come out through the top deck . Enjoy your Saturday , I'm off to work .

Moving the weight forward did change the bow height for the better , I believe it can go all the way forward another twelve inches . Except I'll pay my nephew to crawl in the front . He's 24 w/ a small frame , should fit with a couple of pushes ...

The propeller results for the 9.25" x 13" : solo outing .
5300 rpm at 25 mph/gps . There were noticeable handling changes .
First , I could run the jack plate all the way up w/o slippage . Next the prop did not slip in the turns unless I turned sharply . Which leads me to believe that I need to get the motor higher .
 
Went out again with the wife , 11.5" pitch prop on and moved the trim pins in one . Boat would go on plane with slight snaking of the wheel . Did not have to lean forward on the seat . The rpms were at 5800 .
I still want to move the weight all the way forward . Moving the trim pins to the middle position if just myself or in one if two people seems to be key to reliably planning out .

Well , you may get your wish . Plans are to move the weight all the way forward this week . Only this time the fuel tank is coming out . I'd like to raise the motor too . I wonder if there is a lifting ring for the fly wheel on 20 hp motors . I'm not fond of using straps . Anyone have one to sell , fits a 2011 Merc 20hp 4 stroke ?
 
Today I finished mounting the counterweight , the center mass (30 lbs) is over the bow eye . I want to clean it with the shop vac before putting the tank back .
I looked at the motor and it would seem that I will need straps or to tie a harness . Nothing's easy .
Looking into options for lowering the water pickup .
