Toys For Tots run - Delaware River

Ramifications

Well-known member
I was meeting with one of my customer the other day, and found out he runs the Toys For Tots in my area. It got me thinking, and remembering the run Wildman did... Would anyone be interested in doing a Toys For Tots run on the Delaware River From Fortescue, NJ to Burlington, NJ? That is about a 75 mile run; I'm not sure that is the distance this type of run usually is, but it could always be shortened if need be.

We could leave out of Fortescue in the AM and make a fuel/lunch stop around noon and the final stop would be at a bar/restaurant to drop the toys. For timing, I was thinking mid-September. Let me know who would be interested in doing this... I would likely open it to everyone, not just Checkmate owners.

If enough people are interested, I will put some information together and post it up here:cheers:

I might be able to swing that if I don't go down for rock the bay. Have a couple of other guys on oso that might do it also. I will have to see what the green looks like at the end of summer.

At this point it is just a thought, and nothing more. The dates can be whenever, but I thought Sept would be good since it's not too hot and we usually get nice fall days for river runs, along with the River not being as busy.

I'm really just putting it out there to get some feedback and see if it would be worth while to invest my time into. Of course Toys For Tots is worth while, but I'm not going to make a solo run if you know what I mean. I would setup a good starting point with plenty of space for everyone, and the same for the lunch/fuel stop and the final drop off.

If I do it I'd be cutting it really close on fuel I think. the furthest I've done was 60 miles up the Hudson and I only had a few gallons left. Keep us updated, the fall like that would be nice for sure.

I'd be interested also, but are you sure that run on water is only 75miles? Looks more like 90+ on Google Maps. 75 miles seems to be the road route (and my pad and skeg wouldn't like that :rof:).

What's your range Ram?

Just realized it is 75 NM which is 86.25 miles. I did it by charting the route on geogarage.com. I don't know what my range is yet, but I would assume very similar to what you guys are. I have a 32 gal tank, which I assume will get me around 50-60 miles with a 10% reserve.

I figured we would break the trip in half with a pit stop for food and fuel.

That's a big tank for an Exciter .....isn't it?
Is it under the floor or the transom?

I've only got a 15gal tank in my Enticer ......maybe I just have a little one :o

I don't know what the standard size is for the Exciter/Eluder, but my tank says 32 gals right on it. I assume it correct since I took over 20 gals out when I removed it and it wasn't even close to being full. It sits in the back of the boat between the stringers and is formed to the shape of the hull. It sits with the top above the floor by abut 3-4" and the rest sits below. There are four angle type brackets that support the tank off the hull.

Man I would love a tank that big, mine is stamped 21 gal on it and it won't even take that much, it was modified by the PO on both ends when he had it up in the bow :brickwall: I'm guessing it would only hold about 17 gal, the first thing I did when I got the boat was put the tank back where it belongs, but there wasn't much I could do with the modification that was done to it.

The most I've ever been able to put in at one time is 15 gal and the gauge was right on empty.

I can't commit to anything more this summer. Hope you get to do it, sounds like a good time for a good cause. The mileage is my normal outing, about the same its going to be for me to go to the island and back. Hope gas goes back down a little!

My bad - I was confusing the boat with the Predictor/Enticer size.
I'll get back into my box. :eyecrazy:

HAHA and take your small tank with you:rof:

I will confirm the size of my tank when I fill it back up, since it is completely dry and clean right now. I'm not sure if I should hope for smaller than 32 gallons with the price of gas or hope for the 32 gallons for a greater range:confused:

Hope for 32....you don't have to fill it everytime with these prices :D
