:yell: Hey guys. I tried my hand at shrink-wrapping my '87 Enforcer last fall and everything seemed to go pretty good. When I unwrapped the boat yesterday though it looks as though the heat from the gun sporadically created dull spots around the perimeter of the boat near the rub rail.

Two questions:
1. Has this ever happened to anyone else?
2. What should I do; try to buff it out with a 3M product?

Any advise would be apprciated. Thanks
 
Welcome to the board. I have never done the shrink wrap thing, so I can't be much of a help. I am sure someone will be along.

I've shrinked about 500 boats (and burned more hair off my arms then i care to discuss) so i think i can speak with some knowledge on this. i have never had dull spots appear after shrink wrapping. How far down did you wrap the boat? i'm wondering if you don't have some "chatter marks" which are caused when you trailer a boat shrink wrapped. if you held the gun to long in one place you should burn a hole in the plastic long before you ever a chance to damage the hull. Try a good rubbing compound to bring it back. if you needed any tape to tape up the holes it can be a real pain to clean, acetone is the only thing i know of that will take tape residue off. hope this helps

Thanks Chris. I was 12 inches below the rub rail and was really careful to apply short, sweeping bursts from the heat gun so it's nice to know that after all the boats you've done this hasn't been a problem. I'll give the rubbing compund a try. Thanks for the tip.
 
personally, i like to wrap right down to the turn of the chine, that protects the whole hull from sun damage over the winter.
