Want new boat and its not a Checkmate

Well the title is a little misleading but it got ur attention :D

Actually my Checkmate is doing great and it aint goin nowhere anytime soon.

However I finally found and purchased a nice water front piece of property on beautiful lake Gaston in NC.
It took me two years to find this and get it titled in my name, but it will be soooo worth it when I'm done clearing and building.

But....... I really do want/need a new boat, ---- I'm looking around back yards right now for a cheap banged up garden variety 14 or 16 foot aluminum canoe for a hundred bucks or so to keep on my waterfront until I build a dock for my real boat.

The property is very remote and heavily wooded on a long dirt road away from everything. As a matter of fact the nearest grocery store is 30 miles away and the nearest mall is over 100 miles away, and the nearest gas station is 14 miles away.
The population in the town is 849 ---- and that's the biggest town for 40 miles in any direction.

The land needs lot of chainsaw and bobcat work and I plan on starting right away on Monday or Tuesday.
Here are a few "before pics" --- as you can see, there is a lot of work and clean up to be done but it will all be soooo worth it when I'm done {My own private Idaho in NC}

My truck here is parked in the future entrance to the driveway.

This is my private beach and dock area ---well, the future beach and dock area, obviously needs lots of clearing and clean up-- but looks great for a canoe right now.

This will be the view from the windows and deck of the chalet that I will eventually build.

After I clear a bunch of trees and brush, the water views are gonna be spectacular.
I also just applied for a permit to build a boathouse and lift for the Checkmate --- however if that doesn't get approved I can still build a nice dock.

I am really Happy for you Kurt

I am really Happy for you my Dear Friend. I know its going to look Beautiful when you are done, just like your Checkmate is. Best Wishes Always, Your Friend Sammie from Action Marine

Very cool! It's my dream to someday purchase some lake front property. My MX-13 would be very happy living next to a beautiful Washington lake.

Congrats, when's the party??

It's interesting that of all my friends that I've told about this, your the first one that asked the most important question....... I like the way think Brian.

Once I get everything done in about a year or so, if you can get that big beautiful ZT of yours down from Pa your most definitely welcome at my dock.
Your Checkmate would love lake Gaston, 30 miles long of wide open throttle on beautiful flat water, and some of the best bass fishing in the south.

I've been wanting this for over 50 years --- I really hope you don't wait as long as I did :o

Shweeeet! Looks gorgeous. Use it in good health.
You might wanna be more careful about using the term "chainsaw".
Kicks Jimway right into porno mode..
Seriously though, that looks really, really nice.
Can't go wrong with a lakeside investment.

Thankyou my friend...
Just think, I'll probably get the land and the structure all finished in less time it took me to do the Checkmate restoration :shakehead:

Very nice Kurt ! We are hoping to be living on a lake soon but a smaller lake that will require the purchase of the Starlite I have been wanting. If a "Gaston Get Down" happens I would be there !! Looks like my kind place ! Best of luck .

Congrats, when's the party??

If you have it planned together let me know!😜

Congrats kurt on your new property!!

This is why i love the USA; SPACE around... And get something going.

Overhere everything is developed. Or full packed.

You are building my dream.. Last time i was overthere i was strongly thinking about buying property. The only thing is i cant own anything overthere. As far as i know.

Well I got my new {used} boat [yes still have the Checkmate].
This one is a 16ft indestructible aluminum Grummen.
Was previously used by a hunting guide on the Cape Fear river.
She will spend the rest of her life bringing me to some of the best bass and mud cat fishin spots in NC on lake Gaston.

I staked out the 24 X 24 footprint of my new cabin, --- just waiting for my permits to be approved for the cabin and the dock before I start pouring cement and banging nails.

I did make a little spot to rest my lazy fat azz and set down my beer while I build the cabin.
