water pressure gauge

i put a new water presuure gauge in boat, i installed the water line into the pee tube i call it , im getting no reading on gauge at home on water hose but its shooting water out of the pee hole great. is there another place to put it or another way to install to get a reading i have it about in the middle of the hose. thanks

Tim,
List what kind of motor is it going on? I think you may need too get it installed higher up on the motor there is really no pressure at the tell tale (pee hole). but it depends on the engine. I just installed one in the plug on my 2.4 V-6, took a total of 3 min for the fitting . the hardest part was running the hose up the gunnel.and that wasn't hard.
Are you still running the Tower of power?

hey thanks i forgot when i replaced the water pump there is a hose coming up out of lower , didnt know what is was for it comes up out of lower then its folded over i bet thats what its for i will check it out tomorrow, first inline i have had that had that so maybe a water gauge was hooked up at one time.

i have 77 150 inline and mine just has a tee coming off the head one side goes out the side of the motor and the other goes up to the gauge. i dont know why you would need to run it down to the pump. seems like a pain in the ass.

The highest pressure is at the pump . The pressure coming from the tell tale isnt as high you will get a better reading from the pump. The tell tale is just a discharge to let you know the motor is cooling

It does NOT go anywhere near the lower unit or midsection. There should be a small plug with a 7/16" head near #1 spark plug... Remove it, install fitting for hose. That is where it goes.

That is the speedo pick up hose. Some boats have the speedo pickup mounted on the boat. It is NOT for the water pressure gauge.

The other issue is that most water pressure gauges go to around 30 lbs I think, but you need a low pressure gauge that reads 0-15 lbs because an inline will be in that range. I speak from experience because I have the 30 lb gauge and it barely shows anything. It's worthless at idle. Mine is hooked to a tee that was already in the head, but I may look for that plug that was mentioned around the #1 cylinder because that may help some as well.

gauge

found a brass plug located around number 3 plug removed and started breifly water goes thru there, installed gauge there works good now thanks all.
