WHAT MOTOR FOR PULSARE 2100 LONG DECK

JUPITER PULSARE

Well-known member
LOOKING TO BUY A STRONG MOTOR FOR THE PULSARE 2100 I JUST BOUGHT.. THE BOAT IS RIGGED WITH A HYDRAULIC JACK PLATE WITH 6" SETBACK AND A SEA STAR PRO HELM. SHOULD I USE A 15" MID SECTION OR 20" MID SECTION ON THE MOTOR. I WOULD LIKE TO USE MERCURY FOR POWER, ANYWHERE FROM A 200HP TO 2.5 EFI BUT COST WILL PROBABLY DICTATE A MID 90'S 225. WHAT KIND OF SPEED CAN I EXPECT WITH A 225. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Jw was getting right around 70 with a 225 promax. great running motor. I would go with a 20" mid, lots avaiable.

A word of caution - Opti's have a nasty habit of packing it in after about 500 hours. check the hours from the ECM.

Pulsare with 225 Promax and closed bow you'll easily run mid to upper 70's on gps. I found that 10" of setback made for nice balance at mid speeds, but could have used more for top end work as the Promax is light weight. I'm guessing 10" would have been almost perfect if I had a 3.0 225 EFI instead.

I just bought a 1998 pulsare 2100 long deck with a Mercury 225EFI last week and the speedo will run over 80mph, but I haven't tried a GPS speed check yet. It is runnig like this with a 6" Jack Plate and a 25" Tempest.

Yamaha 225 is a nice motor, same speeds on top as the Mercs within 2 usually.

I have a 2100 closed deck, and run a 95' 225 Promax. 11" setback and 25" mach gets me 78 gps. (I could only make one run next to a guy that had a gps on board). Speedo is well past 80. A mid 90's ProMax shouldn't be much more than 5 grand. The 3 liters are in the 4 grand range. Good luck with the search!

AS OF 05/02/04 THE MOTOR IS INSTALLED AND READY TO GO. I INSTALLED BOB'S MACHINE SHOP 2" SPACERS BETWEEN THE MOTOR AND JACK PLATE TO ALLEVIATE CLEARANCE BETWEEN STEERING RAM AND HULL. IT ALSO NOW GIVES ME 7.5" OF SETBACK. IF I GET HOME FRON WORK EARLY ENOUGH ON MONDAY I MAY BE ABEL TO RUN IT FOR THE FIRST TIME!

IF NOT, I'LL HAVE A BAD CASE OF BLUE BALLS TIL FRIDAY!!!

BROUGHT THE BOAT HOME FROM HAVING POWER PLUS MARINE RIG THE MOTOR AND STEERING. IF NOT FOR THE BLINDING RAIN STORM, I WOULD'VE SPLASHED IT LAST NIGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME, BUMMER

HEY FNSHMASTER, WHEN I WAS THE FACTORY REP FOR ACTIVE THUNDER BOATS I SOLD A BUNCH OF BOATS TO GUYS IN THE MI AREA. YOU GUYS ARE DIE HARD BOATERS UP THERE. I GUESS IF MY BOATING SEASON WAS ONLY 5 MONTHS LONG, I WOULD BE AS CRAZED AS YOU GUYS.

HEY FNSHRMASTER, I'LL BE RUNNING THE NEW BOAT THIS SUNDAY FOR THE THIRD TIME. SPEED IS EASILY APPROACHING 70 MPH, HOWEVER I AM GETTING SOME HEAVY CHINE WALK. I THINK I NEED TO BLEED THE HYD. STEERING SYTEM AND GET SOME AIR OUT OF THE LINES. UP TO 65 MPH THE BOAT ATTITUDE AND HANDLING IS OUTSTANDING. I ALSO CAN'T WAIT TO START PLAYING WITH SOME DIFFERENT PROPS.

HEY BBB, DID YOU HAVE ANY CHINE WALK PROBLEMS WITH YOUR BOAT? I THINK I NEED TO TRY A TEMPEST PROP. I'M GETTING SOME BAD CHINE WALK ABOVE 65MPH. I HAVE NOT TRIED TO DRIVE THROUGH IT AS I DON'T WANT TO TAKE A CHANCE ON LOSING THE BOAT.
