What paint is the best?

I have a 1983 21' Checkmate Enchanter O/B project and just wondering what paint would be the best to spray on it. I've heard so many things just want to know which would be the easiest to spray and last the longest.

Thanks Chris

i have always liked the dupont imron paint.
very tough stuff, never heard of it being used on a boat though
I had the aluminum rims on my jeep painted with it
and i think youd have a hard time getting it to come off with a sandblaster.

its not cheap.

I am partial to BASF Diamont & mainly use that in our shop. It is also the paint that Donzi used on its boats with grapics until recently (they now use PPG). We also use PPG at times, but not nearly as much as the BASF products.. :) Jamie / Lakeside

Imron is a great paint for Fiberglass boats. I sprayed it on a few boats. I painted my 1972 Jetmate with it. Pics are on, Picture This, in this web sight under Vintage Checkmate. If you have any questions, let me know. It is expensive.

I rolled a complete 16" Sportcraft center console with Awlgrip. It turned out great, although next I would tip it after it was rolled. But this paint is not cheap... But it is tough as nails... I never waxed the boat once after I painted it, but it shined like it was waxed!

I gallen of Glidden and a 6inch roller :bigthumb:
I used rustoleum on a chevy truck. 6" foam roller and a foam brush. 1/2 gloss black, 1/2 flat black. Turned out great. The guy that bought it thought it was a $1000 paint job. I never had the heart to tell him what and how I did it.

I used PPG on my stuff and introlux below the water line. Imron is great and tough but unless you have the proper fresh air system and a booth, I would not touch it. VERY hazardous to the health. Remember, above the waterline is no different from painting a vette!:thumb:

y boat and my vette are both covered in ppg concept.. dbc color and either 2021 or 2002 clear... it's holding up just fine below the waterline so far... I did shoot a total of 4 wet coats on the boat though.. and I'l let you kniow how the vette counes out this time... some damn colllege student toook the front end off of it... should have it back on the road soon... :shakehead:

Don't shoot imron without proper equipment and to be frank, it's tough stuff, but the modern resins are just about as durable, safer to use, look amazing, and are easier to lay down for someone without as much experience... imho
