What power?

I love the "period correct" look of an old OMC hanging off the back and it wins for the cool/WOW factor but I think the logical answer would be the newer, presumably more reliable engine but its a tough choice for sure.

It's been a very long time since I heard the rumble of that nasty 2 stroke V-8 running, but I can tell you when I fire my motor up there is not one other boat on the lake that sounds like it. The 3.0 Mercs are wicked sounding with a tuner in them.
 
BK, if you decide to go with the V8, make sure you build/bond the transom, transom knees, topdeck, etc, strong enough to hold a fridgerator!! There have been adapters built to install a Merc lower to the Johnnyrude V8 mid section. Second Effort was a big Johnny Rude high performance center back in the day. They built alot of bad AZZ white motors!!
