Where should I vacation this year??

Yeah, I realize that it was 3 degrees this morning here in SE Michigan but I just came back from warm weather and can't stop thinking about getting on the boat!

The wife and I decided to do a week on the water with just our family (3 and 6 yr olds - plus a new puppy coming this spring). Our original plan was to rent a cabin on the water in northern MI - on Torch/Elk/Bellaire lakes. But I've been thinking that we could drive a little longer and find a spot to the south where it would be a bit warmer. It would be nice to be near some descent restaurants and some neat stuff to see on or off the water.

I'd like to stay within about a 10 hour drive of Detroit. Has anyone ever boated around Memphis?

Let's hear your favorite spots! Thanks!

3 degrees...if it was 3 degrees here I'd be breaking out the sunscreen. We just set a new record low for January 2nd...-33 F. As in What the F. The previous record of -32 was set back in 1885. Global Warming?

But on to the original question...if your going to go, go big. Head for south florida. Just my opinion. Head for the Orlando area...lots for the kids and the "big kids".

Sam I am

Lake Cumberland, Dale Hollow, or Norris are all good lakes within 10 hr drive of detroit. Cumberland is where I go and there is quite a few other members that visit there also:thumb:

3* there? Heck, we were only 7* down here this morning. That is hibernating weather:sleep:

Last year my friend and I rented a house with 3 cabins at Mullet Lake. It was in Topinabee, MI. We all enjoyed ourselves and got in quite a bit of boating.

Down southwest of knoxville there is a 70-somthing mile long lake called watts bar lake (actually the Tnn river). I went down that way last year and it was great- gf sister has a house on the lake. Lots of stuff to do within a 1-2hr drive- chattanooga, pigon forge. You can go thru the locks, resturants and stuff on the water. Its a very clean lake and most of the marinas have hotels- the girlfriends sister works at a marina- I plan on going back next year a few times.

Thats the only one I have personal expirence with. Dale hollow is closer to pigon forge, I think and from what I hear you can't go wrong with cumberland.

Thanks Guys,

Those all sound like good places. The river idea would be something different and kinda cool. Nick - where exactly were you, town or marina name? We'll probably be looking at July 4th week and booking early.
