Which hulls have a pad?

I have been curious for a while now, what all checkmate hulls have a pad? my old 71' mx-15 had a small pad about 4" wide and my 88' starflight does not have any pad. Since all of the "fastest" V-hulls have pad's it would make sense to think that the checkmate's with pads would be the fastest.

My V-Mate II has about a 10" step in the back of the hull and a small pad about 3" wide. Here's a picture Chucker had on here of his old V-Mate II (now TheNerd's boat).

I don't think Checkmate's pad is wide enough for real high speeds, it's a compromise pad. I'd love to try a Pulsare 2100 with a 12" pad and the same motor that was on my stock Pulsare. I'll bet there's 5+ free mph with a wider pad. All of the current high speed SOB's being built have a wide pad.........

The step and notch in the Starflight is probably a faster bottom than a standard narrow pad Pulsare..................:eyecrazy:

So you think a starflight is faster than a pulsare? I always thought that both hulls set up with the same power, the pulsare was faster, you give me hope! I am just trying to figure out which hull checkmate made that had the best pad. Your exciter is an I/O right?

The Enchanters had a nice pad, about 6". My Enchanter ran 3-4mph faster than the Starflight with the same engine. Both hulls have the little step, although that step is too small to have any real benifit.
The padded hulls get up to speed faster but you do give up some cornering and ride. I was amazed at how much better the Starflight turned than the Enchanter and the ride is hands down better. I need to catch a ride on a Pulsare to compare to the older hulls.

My starflite does turn like a dream compared to my old mx with the pad. Maybe a pulsare is a comprimise between both the enchanter and the starflite. I would love to put my engine on a predictor or starfire, something a bit lighter than the 1300 lb. starflite and with a pad.

JW is right about the 2100 needing a wider pad. TCAT has the fastest Pulsare on the board with a 225hp. His has a custom 10" pad and it runs over 78 MPH. That's 4-5 MPH faster than others with the same setup. There's a video somewhere here of it and it is right out of the water.
On the other hand the 6" pad is about right for the smaller 16 footers as they get on pad by 40 MPH or so. Just guessing here, but by the same logic the 18 footers would probably benefit by an 8" pad.
The Starflite hull is unique amongst the Checkmate fleet. It has a raised V pad and it will get up on it with enough setback and HP. I'm not sure about that step in the hull...it seems like you have to lift it off the water completely to get the hull to fly. You can actually hear it break looose at 55+ MPH. It may have a purpose at mid-range speeds but it is probably counter-productive at high speed.

Your right about the starflight , if you can get it to air out the speed jumps up and its a diffrent boat. On my set up I have to get over 67 - 68 then shell jump up to 72, you can feal the boat lift up out of the water as it frees up. Yamaha 200 and 16" of setback. with 10" it wont climb out, 66-67 is best I could get.
The starflight turns awsome, it will bury the rubrail a couple feet from the bow in a really hard turn, the Enchanter wont come close to turning that hard, it will slide.
