Which steering kit?

I'm in need on a new steering kit. Not sure if I will keep the boat, or go bigger so I don't want to spring for the dual cable just yet. My question is which no feedback kit would be upgradable to dual cable, by just adding the cable later on.

I have been looking at a few, but it really doesn't specify if they're upgradable to dual without changing out the helm.

There NOT upgradable. You have to have a dual cable helm whether it be a rotary or rack system. Maybe you can find a take-out helm for a dual cable setup and install it. Then again, your only a second cable and attachment kit away from having dual cable steering so what's the point.

Try a bass boat dealer. Some of them upgrade their new boats they sell from dual cable setups to hydraulic setups and sell the take out parts. I bought a "new take out" NFB dual cable helm this way for under $50.00 and then bought a second cable new for $65.00.

I was afraid that they might not be upgradable. As for the Bass Boat dealer, I wouldn't even know where to start looking. Any idea what the cheapest good dual cable is? I see them for about $400 and that's not too far off from hydraulic. Also I would need it with both cables as the one I have is shot.. either that or the rack is stuck.

On another note do I even need a dual cable?? I have a Trimate with a 175hp V6. Will I even go fast enought to experience flutter problems?

Thanks in advance , and sorry for the noob questions.

It's not a matter of flutter, and YES with a 175hp engine and a boat capable of going past the 50 mph mark it is a matter of safety to have dual cable or hydraulic steering.

Looks like I'll just go with the dual, and take it with me if I change boats.. better be safe than sorry.

One question. Is the dual steering just a backup in case one of the cables breaks? Or does the second cable help with control of the engine at speed?

Also is the rack setup better than the rotary??

Thanks for all the help guys.

The dual cable system, The cables are adjusted againest each other to cancel out each others slack.

Yes

Yes

I don't know.

That's a good point. Rack just seems simpler. Where do you get them for $370 plus shipping? I only seem to find them for about $400. Tho I did find a rotary for $350.

Sounds like Boatman has what you need and I wouldn't hesitate to do business with him. He's offered to send me brand new props before to test for just the price of the shipping.
