who makes the best guages

jazzy

Well-known member
im looking to replace some guages in the boat specifically a speedometer want to get a gps unit and a pair of tachs i have faria stuff in the boat now but have had both tach cases split in two and had to glue them back together to keep running so i guess im not exactly sold on their quality anybody have any recommendations based on prior experiences

I have Gaffrig and I am pleased. I have always gad good luck with AutoMeter too and they even have boat specific gauges too.....Livorsi are one of the best, but have one of the best prices too.

I make the best gauges, send me $1200.00 cash and I will get them out ASAP.

i have no idea on the guages, but
Here's some more questions to answer.. Who makes the best pickup truck?, Who makes the best trailer? or what girl looks the best in a bikini? :poke:

nice buss,
but since you asked gmc makes the best truck, myco makes the best trailer, and whatever girl laying on my sundeck looks best in a bikini these are unrefutable truths so lets find me a nice set of guages

faria guages here.....no isues so far!
Owning 3 sets, I will never buy another set. The digital hour meter went out 3X. 2 times, they fixed it and it broke within less than 4hrs run time. The 3rd time I called, left a message with the manager that I wanted to get a standard tach and an analog hour meter gauge in return. I added that this was the 3rd time it went bad and I was really tired of the digital display going bad. Now keep in mind the tach w/digital hr meter was more expensive than the 2 separate gauges. I never got a call back or any response from them. There fore, I will not buy from them again. The digital part is a very problematic part according to faria. You would think they would fix the problem the right way....:brickwall:
My digital depth sounder would only read correctly at slow speeds (10mph or less) Faster than that, it would jump from 10ft-180ft-30ft-2.9ft in a matter of 5 seconds:irked:

That being said, I did love the Chesapeake SS gauges look. The speedometer was very close to GPS. All the other gauges worked great.

I've got Livorsi in both the Supers... great guages and would definately buy them again. Kirk at Elite Marine (over on OSO) has the best prices on them from what I've found.

The one and only drawback to Livorsi is the fact that they all have a weathertight connector now instead of the old post design, so its gonna require redoing some of the wiring for the gauges... not a huge deal, but somthing to consider before buying them. Other than that they are awesome!

Gaffrig gauges are now made in China (and I've heard about qc issues).
Livorsi- made in the USA... I think that Auto-Meter are also made here.

Screw chinese junk- not on my boat!

I don't know for sure if they are still in business or not, but Nordskog did have a nice digital gps speedo and matching digital tachs. I have used there gps speedo's and they are great.

I got some of their digital gauges in my fiero. Boost, trans temp, and A/F ratio. Great gauges!

LIVORSI gauges steering wheel and controls all the way!!! thats whats in my 2100.... although the faria ones are pretty nice as well

wildman how would i do if i needed two full sets i think nick sold me with the fact that they are the only ones still made in the us originally i wanted to buy one of those datatachs like you put in your liberator and put that in the speedo hole and then mount an in dash gps where the tachs were but they dont make them anymore they still have one left but if it broke im out the 1400 so im thinking im just gonna go with standard guages i will e mail you with what i need for a quote

I beleive Livorsi and Gaffrig were partners....for a long time. Then went separte ways 10 years ago?, both making the same gauges. Livorsi called his "Gaffrig Precision Instruments", Gaffrig called his "Gaffrig Performance". There was some legal issues and Gaffrig got rights to the name. Livorsi calls his Livorsi now.....This is the way it was explained to me, could be wrong or more to it.

My understranding also is that over the years Livorsi has improved his more and are of in most perf boater's opinion better quality. Both are excellent, though.

As far as other equipment offered by Livorsio such as steering wheels, shifters...etc. I am not sure if the Livorsi manufacturing actully makes those, or just puts their name on them. Anyone know?
