Would Like Your Opinion on New O/B Model !

Kip Combs

Hea guys.....we are in the early stages of designing an all new 23-24 ft O/B. As some of you may have heard...we are using a old Enforcer O/B as a base line to start form. But....we are trying to figure out what kind of a cabin or style of cabin to go with. Alot of you guys have either 2100's,Starflite's, and Enchanter's...if you were to move up to a bigger O/B model for ruffer water or what ever reason....would you rather see a full cabin with bulkheads, cabin door , porta pot, etc(like the old Enforcer) or just something basic like the 2100 ....keeping it light and fast?Also....what about an open bow version of this?... the long deck will be first. What better people to ask then you O/B guys ! Their will be no single HP limit on this boat either! Thanks for your opinions in advance !

light, fast, special graphics (is half sold, i believe)

fast name for it, (make it XT ??)

Kip,

Very Cool

Since you asked.....I like the full cabin route. V-berth for a nap or overnight.
Porta-pot for... but more important I would like to see a solid transom with options on the engine bracket/swim platform combo. Loose the engine well and put a nice sundeck with storage compartment below. At the helm build in a compartment for offshore style controls.

Maybe make the cabin outfit optional for the comfort vs. gofast crowd. Keep us posted and thanks for asking!

Kip, thanks for asking for our input. That's very kewl!

Personally, I'm probably never going to be in the market for a boat this big. Our lake is just too small. But I sure wish I was! And I'm sure whatever you guys come up with will be awesome! The thing I think would be kewl, is some new graphics options. Nothing too gawdy, but maybe some options with a little more pizaz. I really like the checkered flag stuff flowing back.

Not to get off topic, but what I would really like is a new O/B Playmate. Perhaps there could be a jet option model. A mini Pulsare style boat would be excellent! If you introduced one, I'd start saving right away!

And I'd really like a ZT model in the 19-22 foot range that could be equipped with a Big Block V8.

I think both a closed and open bow would sell. You see a lot more of the larger open bow models out today.

Kip this is very cool that you (Checkmate) is intrested in our thoughts, I am an Enchanter owner and LOVE outboards. I would like to see a boat like you describe 23-24' to handle big lake water but still be fun for smaller lakes.
A simple cabin with one bulk head and door just to keep the stuff from coming back and simple cushion that a couple could "camp in". It would be nice to stay low profile with sit down bucket seats and stretch out the interior a little. The Enchanter had a bit more room between the front back seats than the other models. HemiBee has the right idea on the transome, set back bracket with medium size sun deck/storage space.
I like the new graphics with the flame look. Flames are always cool.
A boat like that with a big 250 Yamaha on it would give me a huge itch to upgrade.

Kip,

It's only my 2 Cents, but with either model, Long deck or B/R - try to get a one piece deck liner, bailing overboard, with a non skid surface and optional lay / snap in carpet. So much easier to keep up.

Optional Wake Tower ?

Anadiozed color matched swim steps / ladder ?

Big outboard version, oh the thoughts running through my head. Closed and B/R versions are a must. My thoughts on the cabin would be sort of a standard berth, with an option package. Love the sundeck idea with no splash well. OB bracket. transom built to handle a set of twin 300X motors or new X-motor. V-deep enough to handle some rough stuff and a steped pad to air out.
Very cool to ask, thanks.

I agree with the options idea. but if your gonna get a boat that big, go full cabin. I also second the idea if a closed transom!!

Kip,this is exactly the kind of boat I've been waiting for! I was at the factory last fall getting my Pulsare repaired (by the way it looks perfect, thank Bruce for me) and I talked to your Dad about a bigger O/B model. He said they could build a Convincor 260 with a bracket if I wanted it. I would want a full cabin, but my wife likes bowriders so she'd probably win. How long before we get more details/pics?

I think it's great that you ask our opinion. Great idea. Need the full cabin option(potty for the girls), single or twin outboard option and definitely need the offshore style controls. I would like to see bolster style seating instead of the swivel buckets, they come in handy in my boating area. Keep up the good work in the graphics department(flames are cool).Just bought a 1984 Enforcer outboard, I will have to trade it in.

i sent chris some pics of my restored 83 enforcer, hopfully he can post them soon, it will give you a pretty good idea on how the new one will look, mine has a 300X and some nice modern graphics on it. i also did a full cabin redo and i have 6.5 feet of sleeping area plus seating, perfect for the weekends...kip leave the deck on the new one as long, thats what makes the boat have the look. i/o enforcers are a couple of feet shorter in the deck than the outboard model...viper gts

just wanted to let you know I like the idea of an OB powered one...just hope there's room for two of them!!! Anyone thats ridden in ANY 23+ with a single OB knows what I mean... Velocity is making their 22 (single OB) and 26 twin OB, and they seam to be the newest "hot ticket" in their line. People like outboards and run them for a reason... lighter, faster, less maintainance. Keep us posted what happens to this idea... Jim.

Kip,
When I went looking for my 2100 Pulsare, (I had an Enchanter prior) I was looking for something that I could rip in, was O/B powered, and could double as a family rig. A 24' O/B with a full cabin would be the next logical step for me. I like Progression's 24 alot, so for Checkmate to go this route would be the clincher. Could be a good hull for the Merc 275 Verado too! (good thing Checkmate builds strong transoms)

KIP .definetly closed transom , motor hung on a bracket . big bow riders seem to be hot right now . some 32 footers out there.and i would think the die hard checkmate fan would want the option of a light closed deck with cushions and maybe even the bulkhead being optional vinyle or fixed . my 283 has an awful lot of weight in the bow . if i had it to do over again , we would take the chain saw to all those cabinets etc.RISENSHINE !!!

I agree completely with Hemibee. A little cuddy, porta potty for the girls, 24 feet max, enclosed transom with sundeck and storage, bolster seating, offshore controls, gps speedo, killer stereo and aggresive graphics. Add in deep vee for big seas, stepped hull for top mph, and provisions for twin monsters, oh my... If this were built, it would be the only boat I would consider buying new.

Light, 23 Ft should be set-up for 300HP O/B and run 80 MPH. Also, give a little more cabin lenght and hieght. Set it up without a recess for the motor, mount the O/B on a Bracket off the back and put a sun-pad in its place! Nickmane it Wild Horses!
