Geico won't insure Checkmate !!!??????

I have been shopping around for insurance for the boat and when I went to Geico online to get a quote I got a pop-up message that said "Checkmate is ineligible for any of our insurance programs at this time...

What the hell?

I'm also getting a quote from Liberty Mutual. Does anyone know of a good insurance company for boat coverage in Virginia?:brickwall:

I was with Citizens Insurance, a company of The Hanover Insuance Group for 13 yrs.Apx 24,000 of replacement value coverage + everything else cost me starting 13 yrs ago $340 only going to $375 this year. That was on my 92 starflite & 245hp merc & trailer. They also replaced 2 powerheads at $8000 apeice thru the years with out a raise in rates.(The Insurance Gods were definitively SMILING on me back then:D)

i went through progressive. they even insured my predictor with the 200 on it. it was all legit. i told them how much covrage i wanted and they told me price. it was only $250 a year for $4500 worth plus all the liability covrage.

S-Nut, I've had great luck w/ State Farm. They even LOWERED my bill this yr.
SCT

Ditto on the State Farm. I have all insurance through them.(life, home, autos, boat, umbrella etc.) My rates keep falling. On my previous boat I blew a lower unit. They did not even bother to come look at it. They cut a check for full price - deduct. Rates never even climbed after my wife had a FEW fender benders.

I will say this though the agent can make or break any deal. Different agents same company can be night and day.

Most boat insurance companys suck in some way or another. I shopped for insurance before I actually finalized the purchase deal on my boat. I got a lot of "unable to insure" statements when I was looking. The only company that would do it was Progressive. I have read and heard good and bad about them (mostly bad). Insurance coverage keeps the bank happy for the few of us with loans, claims however, are a "roll of the dice."

Just curious 245...What did you do ( twice) that insurance would replace your powerheads for? That's really good coverage or a really smooth talkin' agent.

State Farm here too. $330.00 per year.

I have 3 trucks, 1 car, 2 snowmobiles with trailer, car hauler, & the boat with them and the said if I let them insure my house with them they will take 15% off each of my other policies.

First time I didn't hear the warning and it blew.My mechanic said he'll try turn it in as waterpump failure. I'm like whatever,But he sure did. In one week it was back together with a new factory replacement long block.

2nd time must remain a secret until proper Identies are comfirmed.LOL:p

then tell me this-if i talk to my state farm agent what do i need to make sure is in the policy? he couldn't even help me w/ my seats that the mice got.....

I was with a local State Farm for years, then to save money switched over to Liberty Mutual, they SUCK. Switched back to State Farm and couldnt be happier. I just took them pics of my boat, we decided on a fair value, and away I went. I was suprized how cheap it was, dont think I will ever change companies.

Well it's hard for me to come actually put this in writting, but I am in my 25th year of being in the insurace indusrtry - 23 years as an agent for a major carrier and the last 2 as an agency owner for a company with " Good Hands ". FWIW - I did start in the business @ age 22 ....

No carrier / company has the lock any any one market - shop, shop, shop around. In my area my company is looking to expand the boat book and is taking on most boats to 75 mph. Bass Boats to 90 - Not much Bass Fishing in my geographic - Urban Cowboys if you catch my drift ;) .

One word of advice - Don't add your boats to your home policy - trouble in either is trouble in both !

Feel free to PM me with any Q's I can answer

yeah i priced this same exact boat at state farm and it was actually like $260.ish. i was quite suprised but i do got car, truck and motorcycle insurance there, even after i wrecked a brand new gsxr 1000 that was 3 weeks old, then bought another one 6 days later...

how do you get powerheads and lowers replaced under insurance???
if i blow the motor in my truck its not covered..??

I don't Know How, I hear alot of peaple try the old plastic ice bag story or something similair. I think it has to do with your Impeller spinning dry into heap of mualtin rubber with a good stort why.But I would be only guessing ;)

all of you say state farm-yet how many of you besides merc245 have made claims and had them covered? that is where it counts! if they don't cover you for what they are supposed to than why give them your money!!!!!!!!!!!!!:brickwall:

I have heard of gearcases being replaced or the damage covered. " Underwater Obstruction". But a powerhead? Cmon!!'? Not saying it was wrong...Maybe even admiring your work after paying for countless ones out of my own pocket. ( And listening to my Dad come home from work every night for years and tell his family about the people who would try to scam the insurance companies..he had his own independent agency)

Now I have to try not eat all the stuff that rental customers try to "get by" with on my rental boats. " Oh I didn't shear off that lower unit...It was like that when I picked the boat up"
