Checkmate helped start Sunsation

Joe Sunsation

New member
The first performance boat I ever owned was a 16' Checkmate, from there my brother and I started Sunsation Powerboats and the rest is history. I have always had a passion for Checkmate, very glad to see Doug back at the helm of another sucessful company. Checkmate is top notch:cheers:

COMING FROM THE OWNER OF SUNSATION....

WOW!!!!!!:eyecrazy:

That is great to hear. As a Checkmate owner, thanks for the compliment!:thumb:

May I say that you have created (with your brother) one serious brand, that exudes class, beauty, and speed all in one SWEET package.

COOL POST!

Thanks for sharing that little story. :thumb:

Sunsations are a sweet rig.....love the new F-4....that thing is bad azz.....A good friend of mine has a 32 dominator and that thing gets out of the hole and accelerates like no boat I have ever driven before. Although I am hoping I can have a few MPH on him when I complete my motor....hehe

Welcome Joe. :bounce:

Got any pictures of some of those early Sunsations? We'd love to see them.

Here is a photo of one of the first 16' Sunsation built

Thats a cool old boat, thanks for posting a picture of it.

Everytime I go up to McLeod's he's got this small boat in his office, is that one of yours?

No Michael actually designed that boat back in the late 80's and that style became popular several years later. McLeod is a very unique person with the ability to design in the future. We use a lot of McLeod's talent designing Sunsations. I believe he is also instrumental in designing some of the Checkmate interiors.

I've driven 4 hours twice to visit the Checkmate factory but I've never visited Sunsation (much closer!)
Nice boats you've got there. A local dealer here used to sell them and I always enjoyed the graphics and modern interiors!

so whos the guy from sunsation that lives over here with me in clawson,mi? i am always seeing sunsation trucks driving around and he lives about 1/2 mile from me.
