Boat styling, O/B vs I/O

Here is a buddys boat with the matching motor and home made sun deck but it will never have that head turning sound of a big block:lol:

Well, I like the sound and the sunpad of block boat as long as its not mine. I have found that Black matches almost any color and the 2 strokes require much less maintenance than a car motor. But its all about what you like.

Thanks all, for being civil in your responses so far,:bigthumb:

I'm wondering what all the Enchanter owners/lovers are thinking since that boat was available both ways?

Its the only thing I will ever go both ways on:lol:. I love the extra room and the ease of maintance on the OB, but love the exhaust note and torque of the I/O.
I have had 2 OB enchanters and 1 I/O enchanter.

If all else fails, buy one of each:bigthumb:.

I have always called OB's silent power on a busy day at the lake you can't hear them run unless your in the boat.
I love the big block power, A mean big block you can hear coming and going a true lake
rod. I have seen people look up and say what the hell was that when a bad I/B goes by.

As far as looks go I like them both but my attention is always drawn to the awesome looks of high dollar tricked out rig of a I/B. Blown, injected, #6 drives, Billet K-planes, hyd, steering, shotgun mufflers, blower scoops and all the other rigging necessities that go with it gives me a adrenaline rush just looking at it. Most OB's just doesn't grab me that way even though I have been in some fast ones.

I would imagine a lot of what you prefer is what you were brought up with or around, and where you do most of your boating, I live on a small lake that was at one time dominated by O/Bs.(jet skis and wakeboard boats now) But when I head up to Lake Winnipasauki in NH. it is rare to see a big OB. But I am a true OB guy. I like the quickness of the 2 stroke and getting the boat to fly and drive through the chine and on the edge of out of control like my old hydrostream. But as it has been stated you can't beat the sound of a nasty big block rumbling away.
If everything lined up in the finace dept. I would have a rippin OB, And a 38 footer with a pair of BA blown bigblocks to help stimulate the economy at the gas pump!!:bigthumb:

I grew up on the local rivers and lakes around here and all had OB's from small 9.9's to the V6's. Years ago (1970's) my uncle had an I/O Renken ski boat that stayed in the shop more than on the river/ lakes, so I stayed away from the I/O's and stuck with OB's. However I've got friends that have the I/O's and love the sound.:thumb:

You are right about that sound but DAMMMMM they are expensive;)

I am drawn to OB's for other reasons, I want a 30+' boat with twin OB's They perform well and like YF stated The have more room in the cockpit, I have come to the conclusion I just flat like boats. I Have my Convincor and I really don't want to put it in salt water any more.
So I want a big outboard with twins for that task. The OBX is pretty awesome looking from the pictures.

Well, I am a car motor guy. I have 3 main reasons. The swim platform (mine has cup holders in the swim platform:bounce:), the engine hatch/sun pad, and as mentioned earlier 2 stroke smoke in a raft-up is a big turnoff for the ladies.

Oh ya, and I love that big block rumble.

This is just my opinion as i am new to this site but not new to boats. I LOVE an I/O. They look so much cleaner. I think an outboard ruins the looks of an otherwise sweet boat. They look like refrigerator's hanging off the back of the boat. O/B's can be very fast though with high hp in a small weight package but ya can't beat the sound and clean look of an I/O in my opinion.

all I know is my boat always turns heads at the launch. It seems nobody around here has ever seen a v-8 outboard, and as for the sound my motor sounds like a formula 1 freakin screaming. The tree huggers up here hate me:D. Its also great to go blow by some guy who thinks his big block is fast and has 3 times the cash in his motor and only gets in the mid 70's his exspression is pricless.I did that to a whole group of i/os ranging in size from a 30' scarab with twins down to a custom 22' carlson.after i dusted them they couldnt belive how fast i left them sitting and they were running in the high 60's
