Many people have been burnt by that approach with these boats. It's not about neglect, it is about construction quality and making the wood water tight.
I have to agree.
There are some guys on S&F that own Hydro Steams that were stored dry for many years with little to no prior use and still had rotten bottoms.
It is a construction problem, not an abuse problem.
On your specific model/vintage, I am not sure JW. Personally, I would save myself the work.

Nobody is badmouthing the Hydrostreams or Checkmates...just stating some common facts found in both brands. There will always be exceptions (My 1988 Valero YT Bowrider was also rock solid and dry-(now owned by Tjaz) but the fact remains...if you look at the glasswork and workmanship under the pretty gelcoat..inside the floor...under the topdeck, etc...Checkmate builds a stronger, cleaner build with more attention to detail. My old Valero (as dry as it was) had core separating from the topdeck back rest, sloppy workmanship in the dashboard corners (no glass wrapped), holes drilled with no backing to bite into (floor ski locker bezel, switch panel), sloppily sprayed floatation foam inside the topdeck, etc. Minor complaints but still very avoidable. Heck..even Harley Davidson has their share of common traits and problems!!
Why Knot!!!
