Enforcer Paint Resto

I've got all the glass work done for the new setback bracket and while it's apart decided to repaint the Enforcer. The are some paint peeling on the deck from the previous owners paint job. Rather than touching up certain areas I'll repaint the Enforcer from the deck down. This time will be spraying instead of roll and tip method. I'll be using a hvlp gun and air compressor to keep the overspray down since the paint job will be under the carport. So far I've removed the rub rail and started sanding the sides. I need to finish removing the windshield, cleats and other hardware on the deck. Hopefully I can do that in the morning before heading to the N laws for Christmas Eve family gathering. I got all the hardware and windshield removed this morning. Next up will be sanding the deck and drivers side to get it ready for painting. The boat looks different without the windshield, thinking of leaving it off. Here's some pictures.

My boat is covered in Interlux Pre-Kote right now, and will be putting brightside on when the weather breaks. I rolled the primer on, and Im wanting to spray the topcoat.....

I'm using the same stuff!!! Pre-kote, fire red, black and white. How did your boat turn out with rolling the primer/pre-kote?

Also I was quoted $3500.00 to spray the boat and that's with me doing the prep work.

My quote was way cheaper than that LMK if I can help, its cold as polar bear balls up here

I have seen the boat and like the bottom red better. It is very bright and rich red color. It really stands out where as the top red looks old and dirtier (not that your boat is dirty)

I'm home all this week!! I'll be calling for pointers, however you're welcome to come down for a few days!! I know what you mean, wasn't sold on orange/redish (rorange)color the previous owner had on it.

Will that compressor be able to keep up with spraying duties? It may not have enough volume to keep up with that gun.

Yes it will keep up. The guy across the street painted his truck with it.

I got all the sanding done today, probably go over the boat once more. I used some finishing putty to fill in a few spots. I still need to pull the boat out and wash it down. Tomorrow it's suppose to rain all day so I got other stuff to work on. I'm also thinking about removing the anti skid stuff on the floor and roll gel coat in its place. For now I need to finish one think at the time. Here's some pictures from today.

I forgot to mention that the Enforcer is alot bigger when I started sanding. Oh and double the amount of sandpaper, had to go buy more yesterday. I'm using 220 and 320 grit on a DA sander which is what Interlux recommends for prep work.

Are you planning on retaining a stripe when you spray.... I was wanting to stripe when when I do my topcoat, but am a bit unsure of where each color is going to go, and how it will all turn out. Seeing that I wont be using clear, I was worried about the edges of the stripes...

I'll retain the striping, probably not what it looks like now but close. Once all the striping is done I'll wet sand and buff to remove the edge. You could use vinyl pinstriping to hide the edge. Or you could start with a color tape the rest of the boat up. Once that's dried tape the previous color and add another color next to it. That should butt the colors together without having an edge.

Finally pulled the boat out finish sanding the areas where I filled in some spots, got it washed and dried. I've got the cockpit and sunpad area and around the bottom taped up. I've got the boat wiped down with some interlux 333. Tomorrow I'll shoot the primer!!! Here's a few pictures.

I got the primer sprayed on earlier, not bad for my first time with a HVLP gun. Now I gotta wait 16 hrs to sand at least that's what Interlux recommends. My lessons learned so far: don't drink coffee prior to spraying, hold the gun a set distance, even though I'm left handed I spray better with my right, go figure!!! I have a few runs which was to be expected, but gotta start somewhere right!! Here's some pictures.
