1970 Checkmate MX-14

Thank you Checkmate members for your kind words.
William does have a 1968 Mercury 100 hp short shaft motor and it would run great on your MX-14. Set up right you will be running in the low 60 mph range. If you need more help just pm me and i will help you. Always Sammie Action Marine
 
I built a console between my seats with sound system and cup holder. It's easy to step over and gives me much needed storage area. You can mock things up with cardboard and see how it looks and feels. The good thing about starting with no interior is that you can get creative and make it your own.

Wow that looks great! Did you have any trouble with water going into that compartment? Are those cigarette lighters and USB hook ups? Also, did you upholster that all yourself?
 
back seat is a NO NO

you don't want a back seat in that 14 ft checkmate with a big motor on the back. if you plan on taking 4 people all the time get yourself a long shaft motor 85-100 hp and jack it up 2.5 inches and have fun. If you want a real fast 14 ft checkmate get the short shaft and keep the the people down to 2. the 14 ft checkmate came with back to back seats. Always Sammie Action Marine

Click on the link at the bottom of this post and it will take you to my restoration thread. The console has a volume and mini jack for a music player. Water and air can pass through on the sides, access holes and under the cup holder in the front, and fire extinguisher in the rear. :thumb:

you can use 65,80,85 or 100 hp with either a long shaft or a short shaft depending on what kind of boating and speed you want out of your checkmate.

What would happen with 4 people and a short shaft 100 hp?
 
starviper10 a short shaft motor with 4 people will have a hard time getting on plane. if you want a fun boat where you can put 3 or 4 people in it and ski get a long shaft motor and set it up like I told you how. if you want a faster checkmate that handles great with one or two people in it and no skiing get the short shaft motor. Possible Engine 100 hp Long Shaft Mercury

Here's an engine I've been looking at. It's about an hour and 15 minutes from me. I asked the guy if he would part the engine from the boat but he said no. His reasoning was that the engine suited the boat. Personally, I think an engine like that should be on a different boat. He did say it was rebuilt, and he just wants to get the whole thing sold. Anyone looking for a nice 18 ft fishing boat??

Do you know of any LED versions of the lights I found? All I can find are regular lights
 
ask the guy once a week about the motor. if he get to the point he needs the money I bet he will separate them. the motor is probably worth more than the boat.
 
I've been looking at some of the other restorations and am wondering where you guys put all the switches. Do you guys use a panel like these?

Or do you use the stock type pull out ones and use in line fuses?
 
the motor seems like a good deal if it is what he says it is. people use switches like that or this

some put them in the dash on your boat you may think about putting were the hole is on the side unless you plan on repairing the hole. but the dash is the normal spot.
