Ok I got one side completely snaded with the DA today and than went back over with the Gitter bug to smooth things out abit . I started on the other side but started at the bottom and was working my way up . Ill probably get out and sand some more before I leave for work in the morning . Here are a few pictures

I come home from work alittle early tonight and I turn the lights on in the garage on my way in and I noticed some things moved around that wasnt in those places when I left for work . Well I can tell my dad had been here and started fixing the strakes . He fixed the corners that were chipped off . They actually look pretty good ..... He must have been bored tonight to come over .... lol

I just got a 1975 17' checkmate v-mate2

I had posted some questions about the transum on a new thread and was given a link to yours, went through this thread it is really cool, I am wondering a few things and I bet if anyone know it is the people on this thread.
How much will it cost me in materials just to do the transum?
How long would the process take if I only had this project to do?
I am wanting to put a 200hp motor on this boat. I may consider bigger but IDK if I could afford a bigger motor. I am gonna post a link to a youtube video I find it much easier then posting pictures. I believe some of you may have talked of this boat already. I bought it in Eldridge Iowa. http://youtu.be/l1Aj4RfmW7Y

I must admit when I posted my first post I thought I had read this thread till I realized you didn't use wood to do your transum. So from What I gathered it took approximately 40 minutes and approximately $200 for the seacreast mix. I don't plan to do a complete restore, some of the stuff was done by the last guy. The fiberglass on the inside of the transom looks good and clean when I put the plug in and out. You and your dad did a real nice job so far, thanks for posting such great pictures. :thumb: There are a couple of threads around the internet on this same boat rebuild posted by other people doing restores. lots of good info.

Got her all sanded down and rinsed it off in the garage . Than wiped it down with solvent . Was a pretty busy day in all . Got the fisrt coat of VC Performance Epoxy sprayed on the bottom . Should have all the coats on by the end of the week and back on the trailer ....

Figured I would give a little update . The first coat has been sanded but just been to hot to be in the garage and paint . Heat index was 106 here today and very humid ... They are showing 94 here tomorrow and 92 friday . Only chance would be if I could get dad here early in the morning and paint . Sunday is posed to be in the 80's but Not sure if I can get to it or not sunday ...... Soon as we start up again Ill be sure and post up some pictures

Well She know has a total of 3 coats of VC Performance Epoxy on her . We might put one more but not sure yet ... I looks great . This paint really makes a difference in the way this thing looks . I stood in the garage for awhile with my Nephew and we kept checking it over ... Im so happy with the way it looks . She has sure came along way . But I have had the Help from my dad and a very good friend who is always a phone call away . I coudnt have done it with out them....

Dad laying the paint on heavy . Only bad thing was it was over 90 degs but this paint laid very well ...

The transom looks great . This paint is just awesome . My Nephew Scott in the back ground hanging out in the garage with dad and I ...

Now im just waiting on my uncle to bring over some steel and my Checkmate trim tabs and a New piece of tubed steel for the trailer tounge . Im making the trailer a little longer and plus the old piece is smashed in the front ... I still need 3 more quarts of paint 2 white and one blue ... Soon as all the painting is done and the boat is back upright Ill send the power head out while Im rigging the boat .

IMAG0415.jpg

I cant believe how good this thing looks . This paint is just like every one says it is . But it is very thick .
